before i start-this is not to slam realtors who just do their job..this is about the unasked for fishing type.
i live in a old new england town that is known for it's tourist attractions..the town council has been pushing it's "scenic beauty, historic, yadda yadda yadda" to get people to move here.
well and good.
the housing market has gotten ridiculous-crappy,tiny,falling down houses are being sold as "fixer-uppers" for over 450,000.
houses for sale have gotten scarce,so some realtors have taking to sending unasked for "hey, you want to sell?" type things to residents..and they also go down the new obituaries to see if widows/widowers want to sell-i know they do this, because mom recieved 7 offers the WEEK my father died.
mom gets upset every time one comes in (she is elderly, and thinks they want to steal her house),and frankly,it makes me angry.i have actually called repeat offenders to remove her from their lists immedietly.
have you ever come across these tactics?
i told mom the next that asks? we want 2 million,as-is.otherwise,stop bothering us LOL ;)

That's sad to do this to a new widow etc. When we purchased our house our realtor came up with more reasons for needing more cash up front. Finally he said I need another $100 for this and that in order to close. What are we going to do Mr Olson?" I laughed taking him outside of the office and bluntly told him. "We? We aren't giving up any more cash thats what Debbie and I are doing. What are you doing?" Well we had him under a barrel as the sale of the house we finally bought curtailed the sales of 2 other houses for him also. So thats my experience. Thanks for sharing.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have not experienced this but I have heard of it happening. I know Florida passed a law to help protect seniors from those who try to defraud them. It has stopped some things from happening but not all. Sadly those who just call and harass are not considered defrauding.
You know something that may help with this. If she's on the do not call registry and they call her you can get them on that. Something else might be an option is if they have a main company or owner you can complain to them. That might stop them.

Oh I know. I swear some of them have to have brass ones with the things they pull. Not just relators but many others as well. I don't know where they get the guts to pull some of the stuff they do. I know I couldn't do it.

In my area, it isn't as much of a problem as it sounds in yours. It is probably the cost of living that does it, as well as taxes already being high. If only they came with those pre-paid "No stamp necessary if mailed in the United States" envelopes. I would take that envelope, add the un-filled card into it (especially if my name & address is not on it) & drop it in the mail. I've done that with my regular junk mail too.

Good move. But be careful those realtors might give you that amount since it sounded that your house is such a gold or diamond mine to get. LOL.
