When a child slaps me, I generally grab their hand on the backswing and tell them sternly "Good boys/girls do not hit other people. If you want something, ask me. If not, go away." Most parents are afraid to say anything to someone who does this.

Kids have a bad time when doing that to me sometimes, I don't really mind if a young kid does that to me, but when it comes to my face out of a reflex I hit away and in the subway in example once smacked a kid right in the face out of a reflex like that. I didn't even realize it was a kit before I hit it lol, thought I would be pushing away a bag or so :P. But well yeh, then the mother of the kid like told the kid that's what you get for hitting people, lol. The kid wasn't really crying or so but looked sort of a combination between surprised and shocked. But sometimes I also see parents just letting their kid going around hitting people in the subway, bus, train, whatever. I just tell the mom then if she perhaps shouldn't take the kid with her rather than letting him going around like that.
