Gain and lost

There are many things that we can consider gain and lost. Example of this is the rivers, lakes, and seas that was once clean and now dirty. We lost its beauty but we learned the importance of bodies of water, the plains that once was a mountain, we lost its way to heaven but we gain realties and subdivisions, the polluted air that once was a fresh one, we lost its fresh but we became industrialize. Are we gaining or losing to much from this?
