Combating Insomnia

I hate sleep (I know, I am weird) because I feel that sleep takes away from my time - in short I feel sleep is a waste of time. I usually need approximately 4-5 hours of solid sleep to get recharged and ready for another day; as you must have guessed I am a morning person but also one that stays awake late...like today. I do suffere from some sort of insomnia, I never realy consulted adoctor about it because it does not bother me; if I cannot sleep, I climb out of bed and find things to do until I feel sleepy. What about you - how do you deal with your sleeping problems??

I don't have any sleep problems. My problem is that I don't get enough sleep because I have too much to do every day and don't go to bed until very late. The few times I had sleep problems I just took a light sleeping pill and drank some camomille tea before bed.

I have that problem a lot until I lay down and start watching a movie or tv and it doens't take too long for me to fall asleep after that! I am just like you I need only 4-5 hours and I am good to go Anything over that and I am over tired

Thank you, my friend!!! When I tell my family and friends that if I sleep more than 4-5 hours I actually get tired they laugh, probably thinking that I lost it - but I feel exactly the same. Thank you for your input - much appreciated!!

for me 4 hours of sleep would be devstating, I like to sleep a lot and I usually sleep like 10 hours per day, for some people it´s too much, well probably it is and I am trying to reduce that, insomnis is not a porblem for me as you may notice, when I can´t sleep I just take a pill and that really helps, reasding help s alot, too, but in those hours that you a re awke you can log in here and make some extra money, isn´t that a good way to improve ypur income?

I think we all sleep as much as our bodies require or else we would feel tired and irritable as well as eventually would need to crash down and catch up with that sleep. I know people who need 10 hours sleep like you; I am lucky in that aspect tho I have times when I feel the need to sleep as well and that is when I let myself sleep as much as my body needs.

I'm like that too. It's hard for people to understand that I don't like to sleep. I have had insomnia since I was a teen. Currently, I take a sleep aid and I still only sleep 4 hours a night. I just don't like being asleep. Maybe I should get therapy. LOL

No, I don't need therapy. LOL But I do have to have a sleeping pill. I talk half the dose the prescribed me though. I think the fact that having fibromyalgia keeps me in such pain, that it makes it difficult to sleep. But even before I had the pain, when I was a teen, I was STILL an insomniac. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one in that particular club! : )

LOL - I am happy to see that there are more people like me; who actually don't like sleeping. I enjoy being awake and utilizing my time in what I feel is useful (of course sleep is useful too for the body) and that is why I don't try to induce it with pills but, if you feel that you need therapy than may be you should seek help. Thanks for your participation.

I am like you, in that, many times I get 4-5 hours of sleep and feel great.....I am not really clock aware...in that I do not set my inner clock according to the rest of the world......yes, if I have to be somewhere....I am there...short of that though I set my own hours....if I am tired at 5 in the evening, I lay down....I can always do something if the rest of the house is asleep when I am awake. I can recharge in a few hours so I do not miss out on the things that I need to do.....also, my husband is the same way..so it works for us. It is not that I feel sleep is a waste of time, because our bodies are made to recharge while we sleep...but I, like you, have so many things to do..or that I could be doing that I don't stress it... Good topic, my friend.

I know exactly what you mean - beleive it or not I never use an alrm clock unless it is for an ungodly hour for an important appontment (catching a plane etc.) and I want to make sure I am awake; even then I wake up before the alarm goes off...lol! Thanks for your input - always a pleasure to read your responses.

Wow, you're one of the few people I know who hates sleep. I love to sleep. I am always sleepy and I take any chance I could get just to sleep. For me, 6hrs a day is the ideal amount of sleep, but with school, that's a luxury. I usually get 3-4 hours, 5 if I'm lucky, and about 3hrs of nap in the afternoon. If I can't sleep, I don't know, I just get irritated I guess. Lol! Well, sometimes I read a book to fall asleep (reading my notes help me fall asleep as they are really really boring). sometimes I watch TV or do something on the computer. There were times when I desperately needed to sleep because I had to get up early so I kind of sang myself to sleep. Weird, right? I've tried counting sheep too... And sometimes I just lie in bed and think. Think about whatever...until I fall asleep.

I do not have a regular sleeping habit at all. It is totally need dependent. I can continue to work for couple of days even at a stretch, obviously I get tired while doing so, but, I can still somehow manage to continue. Neither I suffer from Insomnia - whenever the workload is minimum I just continue to sleep both in the day time as well as at night. You can say, I can control my sleeping habits like many people do with their eating habits.

I don't hate sleep; but I do like staying up late. I can be a fitful sleeper too, and yet unlike you, I need alot, at least 8 hours I'd say, although I can survive for a while on very little sleep. As I sleep fitfully, I do the same as you: occupy myself with useful tasks until I feel absolutely exhausted, and then sleep. I can also take catnaps; these can be very refreshing. One way I sleep when I'm a bit agitated is invent movies in my mind, and just get lost in teh action of these movies...they can really draw you in until...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Many people told me about taking catnaps - but, as I dont like sleeping I never indulged however, sometimes I think they may do me well, just as you describe... Thank you for participating in this discussion.

Sometimes, I have that insomnia, too. I can't get asleep when the clock ticks after 12 midnight, I know it's weird but it really do happened to me everytime. So if I worked online so late then I need to force myself to sleep since I can't worked much on that next morning if I don't have much sleep. What I did is that I just say prayers (Our Father, Hail Mary) again and again so I could go to sleep. It might be work for you, try it.

The thing is I am not really deperate to sleep - when I cannot sleep I simply do something until I am sleepy. I beleive that unless I do feel sleepy there is no need to force myself to sleep... Thanks for answering - prayer does sound very inspiring and peaceful.

I wish you didn't hate sleep so much! Try to look at it as a recharge time. Your body recharges itself during sleep, just as your mobile phone or your laptop need to be recharged after a while. These are the hours when your body repairs the damaged cells of your body, and if you neglect sleep for too long, you will age faster than others. If you ever have insomnia, just try meditating - try imagining a blank wall, or a candle flame, and you'll be asleep in no time! To top it, you'll have a very restful and refreshing sleep as well.

I love sleeping, lol...Even if i only have 10-30 minutes break, i will still take the time to take a nap...I don't know, i always feel sleepy even if i am at school, so i always sleep on the chairs. There were also times that i could'nt sleep especially when i am excited with the next day. I still try to get my sleep, though its hard trying to sleep, im glad that i am still able to sleep but not fully.

Most people love sleeping - its normal because sleep basicaly rejuvenates and recharges your body. I don't need much to recharge and I don't like it as well so, it that way I am lucky, I guess. Thanks for participating.

I wish i could have reduced my sleep. Minimum sleep i need is 8 hours and if i sleep less then that then i feel like tired and restless.
