Have you ever tried actually sending a message in a bottle?

My bestfriend and I tried to do it but I backed out. The original plan was we will be going to the beach and write all our heartaches in a piece of paper and let it go. This method was proven to be effective as my friend believed. We went to the beach but I was not on the mood because the place was so crowded. We ended up going back home but she really wanted to write something for her crush who is also her male bestfriend. One day, she wrote this letter and put it in a bottle with black sand (the one you buy in the bookstore). She gave it to him as a birthday present. Unfortunately, the bottle broke two weeks later and he found the letter. Instead of feeling flattered or happy with what he read, he got mad at my friend accusing her that she's not a true friend and that he is really mad at her. He said that while he was reading the letter, he wanted to curse her because she has hidden desires for him. They haven't fixed their gap for almost four years now. It's a sad story though..

how fun. I am sure as children my brother and I would try to send a silly message in a bottle for fun... we were once gifted with a sea urchin that was in a glass bottle, it was very lovely - my mother would add food dye to the water for it to change colors, we could not bring it back to the states with us, though, I do not know what became of it.
