Why do people worship Mary? she is the mother of Jesus not God, god put Jesus into Mary.
Mary was only a virgin for Jesus she had several other children to Joseph and they were Jesus's stepbrothers and sisters.
So why did they call her the Virgin Mary?

I am a Roman Catholic and I myself don't understand as to why there are Catholics who do worship her. I know she's the mother of God but I don't exactly know why there are people who are devotee of her and other saints. When I pray, I always direct it to Jesus or to the Holy Trinity. Rarely do I speak to Mama Mary and the Saints when I pray.
But they say that Mother Mary and the Saints do help you whenever you ask help from them. Since they are the ones who sacrificed their lives for the Lord, then they are the ones who are became closer to Him. They say that once you ask help from them, they would also pray for your soul. And that's what I do believe in....
I believe they would certainly help you by praying for you too. Mary and the other saints are not capable of providing us what we need and want, it's only GOd who does that. THeir only role is to pray with you too.
I believe Mama Mary can do so many things for us because she's also a mother. I won't care whether she is a virgin or not, or whether Jesus had half brothers or sisters.
What's important is I know and I believe that Jesus is my God and since Mary is the mother of God, she would also help us by praying for our souls too. :)

But no where in the bible is Mary elevated to that status. Nor are the saints mentioned in the bible the same as cannonized saints of the Catholic church.
I was Catholic until I was almost an adult. At that time I was in Catholic school and kept asking Sister Helena Margaret to reconcile the Catholic laws and beliefs that she was teaching us with the bible. She couldn't. Then I began to study the religion and the bible more carefully. It was then that I realized that the majority of the religion DOES NOT come from the bible.
Jesus said that he would send the Holy Spirit not Mary.
John 14:25-27 (New International Version)
25"All this I have spoken while still with you. 26But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

The concept of Mary as the Mother of God is a flawed interpretation based on limited human comprehension.
True, there is the mystery of the Holy Trinity, as evidenced in the Bible (at the tower of Babel, when God visited Abraham, etc.).
True, Mary was the virgin mother of Jesus, as evidenced in the Gospels of the Bible.
But Catholics equate Mary as the mother of Jesus with Mary as the mother of God, which is flawed. The concept of the Holy Trinity is a mystery as it is. We have no way of understanding it, it just is, that God exists in three forms (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), yet all are the same God. Catholics apply Mary's motherhood to this incomprehensible concept, and they end up with Mary as the mother of God.
In addition to what maildumpster said, I would like to point out that Jesus Himself addressed the distinction with which he treated His own mother and brothers.
He replied, "My mother and brothers are those who hear God's word and put it into practice." - Luke 8:21 (Similar accounts can be found in Matthew 12:46-50 and Mark 3:31-35.)
What is God's Word for you?
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - John 14:6
Now it's time to put it into practice. :)

Mary being worship is an invention of the Roman Catholic church. It only surface in the 1960's.Yes,i believe that Mary has other son's,although i believe that she is a virgin before Jesus were born.It only goes to show that the Vatican is not reading the bible because they are the foremost breaker of what is written in the bible. In the bible there is a verse similar to this...Freely you receive, freely you will give.Vatican is the richest religion in the world, thanks to the poor countries like the Philippines.

I agree with you. I'm sorry to all Catholics that may read this. I was born and raised Catholic and it was thru study and reading of the bible that I learned that the bulk of their religion had nothing to do with the bible.
They don't keep bibles in the seats in Catholic church but just about every other Christian church I have been to does.
The Catholic church used to actually tell people NOT to read the bible. They said people couldn't understand it. I think it was because they feared that people would learn the truth about what God says and what they say.
I have always been amazed at how they claim their laws are from God and yet they change them.
Don't eat meat on Fridays. Ok eat meat on Fridays but not during lent. Now it is don't eat meat on Good Friday. Now they are eliminating the teaching of Limbo. God doesn't change his laws ONLY man does.

rdurusan,
We need to focus on the truth and not blame specific religions Mary did play a very special role and she must to have been a pretty special person for God to choose her, and her religous values would have also played an important role in God chooseing her as well as her lineage.

As leeesa has already mentioned,Jesus is the only way to God and no one else.He is the only one who paid the price for our sins (including mary's sin) on the cross inorder for us to have salvation.I honestly don't understand all the mary worshipping or respect but i believe Jesus is the only way.I also feel forgiveness of sin is through Jesus and not any other mediator(as he is the only mediator between God and man).
Mary was a virgin when she had Jesus, but since mary and Joseph were married, they had other children.Iam not sure how many children they had but they were Jesus' HALF(brothers and/or sisters).

you have a good grasp of the bible Jesus is the only way to go to God Mary was a great vesel for giving us Jesus through the David lineage.
Mary was a virgin, but that is not what is truely important, what is truly important is the saving of the human race and that can only be done with a perfect human being and that was what Jesus was, he had to sacrifice his life for us to get eternal life on earth after armagedon.

It is a Catholic teaching. No other Christian religion believes in the worship of Mary or saints.
There is nothing in the bible directing anyone to worship saints. The word is used but it is not the Catholic view of saints. There is no process for the church to declare people saints.
The worship of Mary goes against the first commandment.
From the New Revised Standard Version of the bible...
The following text is from Deuteronomy 5:6-5:21 NRSV:
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments."
It clearly states that worshipping anyone other than God is forbidden.
The bible also makes it clear that the only ones that can pray on our behalf is Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
I hope that helps you some.

people who worship mary do that bc of ignorance. they dont know that they are not supposed to worship mary or any human being. they are to worship The Everlasting God who can give and take their lives. they are simply ignorant of this truth and need to be taught. pls if you are in a place to reach out to these people, do so, bc that is what Jesus expects us to do here on earth. to bring the lost to Him so they can be saved.
