Pigeons also knows as Doves can make a very good home pet. During my school days I kept around 20 pigeons as my pets. I used to make them fly high and get them down to their nests by whistle sound. Some times the males used to give me surprises by bringing back 3-4 females with them. Have You rared this pet anytime?

I haven't kept pigeons before but sure as I post this someone will come along needing me to rescue whole flocks of them! LOL I'm one of those crazy people that always end up with other people's cast off pets. I used to run a rescue for them but had to stop officially for awhile for my kiddos. Right now we've got 2 umbrella cockatoos (one of which we rescued from an abusive home) and 4 chickens that someone had to give up because the neighbors were complaining. I think it's our responsibility to do what we can to help innocent creatures in need. Humans put them in a situation where they need saving so humans should help them.
I'll be sure to post when those pigeons start coming in! LOL

You are not crazy, Critter! Compassionate soul. Your compassion for animals and birds will be rewarded.

Oh I'm crazy all right, just ask anyone! LOL Thank you for the sweet words though. I already get so much reward for helping animals in need. Rescued animals, once they learn to trust, always seem to understand somehow what you've done for them and they pay it back ten times over in love. The chickens even pay it back in love and eggs, yummy!

I haven't kept pigeons at all, but pigeon keeping is very popular in England, especially in the northern part of the country. The pigeons are kept in what they call a pigeon loft, a caged area, sometimes outside but often inside a shed or something similar. They're let to fly daily, and seem to return to whistles and the rattling of bird seed in a tin.
In days of old, before postal services, messages used to be tied to a pigeon's leg and they were released into flight to deliver the message. With luck, they arrived at the right destination, and returned with a reply strapped to their leg. :-) Amazing.
Brightest Blessings and enjoy your pigeons.

Really? I thought pigeon poo was toxic. I can't see myself having a bird as a pet. Just a personal preference. But I do like having all kind of wild birds come to my yard so I leave bird seeds out for them to eat. And hopefully, at the same time, they will also eat all the bugs in my yard! LOL!!

My brother used to rared them when he was younger. He really enjoyed caring for them. He made them a place to nest. This pigeons are clever bird. When they know there is food, they will bring their family, friends, boyfriends and girlfriends to feast on it.

Wow, how I envy you!!
I never officially had pigeons as pets, but quite frequently had them nesting in our balcony or deep window sills. It was always a delight having them around - I find their 'gurgling' sounds very comforting, hehe. But sometimes I'd find it irritating because they are so dirty!
I never ever tried to communicate with them, we'd just watch them through a window or glas partition, and be happy.

There's a man who lives just up from my house who own about 10 pigeons which look really nice but they can be annoying as they go onto the road and they don't move when a cars coming. I'm scared I might kill one!

They make us concerned, when they are on road, But I found them very cautious. No pigeon accidents were reported so far.
