Barbies were a huge part of my life growing up. I would play for hours and hours on end with my friends or even by myself with my Barbies. I had a huge Barbie house and a camping tent and all kinds of other fun stuff for her. LOL Did you play with these dolls growing up?

I did play with Barbie's and I played with them longer than the norm since my Mother was the one that told me that I needed to put them away cause I was too old to play with them, unsure what age that was, but I remember it well hating to put my Barbie's away and I still wanted to play with them.

LOL... well I played with mine until the summer before I started 9th grade. I had a cousin who was even 1 or 2 years older who would come over and play with me too so to heck with age! LOL I have noticed that girls now are tossing aside the dolls while they're still little girls themselves. And then we wonder why they "grow up" so fast?

Yes I played with Barbies a lot with my sister. I played with barbies till I was 14!!! I remember I would save money so I could by something for my barbies, new clothes, shoes etc. , or beg my mom whenever we go out to get somethin for our barbies. I remember they have imaginary groups of friends too! I also used one of our small closet as their house and just furnished it with something we made out of cardboards and sew some clothes and bags. Aside from clothes, I use to collect shoes for them too. The best gift I received when I was young was a complete set of kitchen from my mom. It's got the counter, sink, dishwasher, oven and fridge with goodies in it!!! How cool is that. I still have them kept in a box. I can't let go of it though I know I won't use anymore. My hubby on the other hand played with GI joes! He talks about how he use to play with them and wished that he kept them and the boxes as they cost a lot now if you check in toy stores.

They're even hard to find sometimes (GI Joes). I remember when my son was little I wanted to purchase a GI Joe for him and new Barbies for the girls. I had to look high and low for one!!! You're not alone... I was 14 before I gave mine up. I think I still had a tinge of heartbreak then too.

I didn't have many Barbies growing up, maybe four tops. But, one of my best friends had a walk in closet that was changed into a Barbie Dream Land. She had Barbie houses, cars, all sorts of things. Some of them were homemade and some were store bought. She had clothes galore, multiple Ken dolls and Kelly & Skipper dolls. We would spend all day and all night in her closet. Her mom would have to come in to tell us that we needed to make sure that we came out every once in awhile for things like food, water and bathroom breaks! I actually think her mom really liked it when I came over because we never bothered her and she got a lot done and never had to worry about what we were up too!

Sounds like a good deal for both the kid and the mom! LOL That's how I feel about having a pool at my house for summers. I almost always know where MY kids are!

I had many Barbies growing up. I also had some others that weren't Barbie but were the samd size as her. I had a Princess Liea doll, from Star Wars. I had a Marie Osmond Doll, from the Donny and Marie Show. I also had Suntan Tuesday Taylor, she would turn tan in the sun and you could spin her hair around from dark to blond. Last but not least I had the Bionic Woman doll and her matching house. Of course I had the Kens and Skippers as well. I did have the penthouse but it was nothing like the ones available today.

You really did have quite an array of dolls in general! I do remember the Donny & Marie dolls too, although I don't recall having either. What was so funny was how our Barbies simply came in a different outfit to become some other style of Barbie (Malibu Barbie was the closest to anything "different" because she came tanned) LOL I also had these little dolls called Dawn Dolls. I have no clue what the idea was behind them but I loved my Dawn Dolls.

yeah... not "mini" like polly pocket mini but maybe about 1/2 or maybe 1/3 the size of the Barbie.

I think I remember the Dawn dolls but not sure. Were they the mini type dolls? Only a few inches tall? I had a lot of them but sadly many got thrown out. I had them in a large 32 gallon trash bag and I left it near the front door. My dad threw them out. Oh well I survived :) although at the time it felt like the end of the world.

We didn't have many toys growing up. My mom used to make dolls for us to play with. My brothers played with sticks that they pretended were swords and then they'd kill the dolls. LOL. Mostly we just used our imaginations. My girls have a huge collection of barbies and bratz and my scene. I think I am conpensating. LOL

Barbies are pretty much the only toy I played with when I was younger lol. My parents spoiled me with barbies I would get a new one the minute it came out on shelves. I had tons of accessories I didn't even know what to do with. I also had two huge barbie houses, tent, cars, etc. I went crazy with barbies. My brother also played with GI Joes and tried "killing" my barbies with them lol.

As a kid in the '50s I don't really remember there being any dolls for boys (action figures). My brother and I, however would terrorize my younger sisters by pulling the arms and legs off their Barbies and sticking the legs back in the armholes or the neckhole...just jumbling them up as much as we could. We finally went too far and drew moustaches, sideburns and goatees on them with permanent laundry markers. That's when we got docked our allowances til the dolls were paid off. Surprisingly, we are all very close now and there were no permanent psychological scars.

I think I had about one. I was never a fan of barbie and dolls, I would rather read or play board games. Every so often I would plait their hair, but that would only take like 2 seconds and then I would get bored and wander off and read.

I LOVED my Barbies. I had literally hundreds of them. I had houses, cars, castles, boutiques, every outfit imaginable, etc. My Mom used to set them up everyday and everyday after school I would destroy her display, lol. I still have all of them, they are ratty and old, but I still have them! I can't bare to part with them, although my husband keeps telling me they've gotta go. I just can't do it...

No I didn't have Barbies and G.I.Joes, but the neighbor girls had some. So my mom was telling me " Well than go enjoy yourself with the neighbor's because you won't have any". I had to make up my mind about it. My daughter have some Barbies.

I used to play with Barbie dolls and my kids did too. I can't remember what age I was when I stopped. It was alot of fun dressing them and playing make beleive. Kids nowadays need to spend more time using they're imagination and get away from the t.v. and video games.

Sure did- I loved playing with Barbie’s when I was young. I had the houses, cars, horses. I had the blow up furniture and the blow up pool- My friends and I spent hours and hours playing with Barbie and Ken and all their friends. My daughter enjoyed playing with Barbie’s also- She doesn’t anymore- she has outgrown them. My brother didn’t play with GI Joes. He played with matchbox cars the most!

YES!!!! I LOVED MY BARBIES!!! I remember that I was probably 14 when I stopped playing with mine but then I have 2 girls so I never stopped really. I remember wanting a townhouse so bad and could never have it. I did have the camper, car, tent, etc. I had shoes, clothes, cases, etc. One of my favorites was Western Barbie and Ken. I loved those!! I had several others too- The Walton dolls, The Sunshine Family, etc. I still have those in a box under my bed!! I will pass them on to the girls one of these days.

I was a major fan of Barbie when growing up. I even kept most of my things over the years too. Granted, I also had a "Sindy" doll, and her horse, and hi-fi system (with a real working a.m. radio!), and dining room set (which included all Barbie-sized dishes and cutlery). I still have those items in a couple of boxes in my basement. I have pulled them out a few times for some visiting kids in the last couple of years (I was blessed with all boys, and they will play with the barbies, but that doesn't last long). What I found really sad to see is how the plastics have deteriorated since the late 70's and early 80's. Sigh! It's all so brittle now, and some of the items have broken beyond repair because of that. :(

I still have my first Barbie Doll, she does not look too good. She is from 1966. I played with her so much. My daughter played with Barbie and now my grand daughter plays with Barbie and loves her.
