John Locke-Is he really defecting to The Others or is he spying?

Note: This contains spoilers is if you haven't see this weeks episode of lost yet...Don't read! Last night, after making Sawyer(James), kill "The Man from Tallahassee", Locke said he was never coming back to the beach, that he was starting his new path, with Ben and The Others. Do you think this is true? Has Locke really defected to The Others? Or do you think he is still spying for the castaways and didn't want Sayer to know? It seems like many others characters (Jack, Juilette, now Locke, and even Kate), it's hard to figure out where their loyalities lie.

I think that John is definetely spying, and by the previews for next week he goes back to the Others and does not take his "own path". I believe that Jack's loyalties still lie with the castaways, but there is something we will find out next week that may make us question that. It is obvious that Juliette is not happy being with the Others, so i question where her loyalties will lie when it comes down to the wire. My big question...why in the world was Russo needing dynomite?!?!

I was thinking the same thing about Russo! I almost put that in my discussion and but didn't want to combine points. I was wondering if John's Path is with the others. I also wonder who they think he is...as they have been "waiting for him". What special role do they think he has to play?

I think that the Others think that John is a "Healer". I don't believe he is with the Others because he wants to be, i think he is there to infiltrate them, and spy. I think that the others will come to sort of "worship" John, and in the end overthrow Ben. After all, last night that is what Richard ( i think that was his name) said to John...that Ben didn't want them to think he was special or had power, and Ben knew that John wouldn't kill his father so that is why he brought him there and tried to get John to do. Ben knew that he would be able to convince his "Others" not to think that John is special. Fishy stuff going on, im tellin ya.

I believe Locke is going back to the others because he wants to know what is going on. What is this place? What is this island? He wants answers. He's starting a path of knowledge, you might say. I don't think his primary motive is to spy, but he may pass along info if he deems it important. Like last night, warning the Losties of the 'stealing' the women plan. I don't think Jack has loyalties to the losties. I think last weeks questioning of Sun was not because he cares as a doctor, but for Juliette's benefit. I don't know what he has planned or their big secret. But I don't think it includes many of the losties. As for Kate...I hate to say this as I am a woman, but she is doing the 'typical' woman thing. Can't keep her mouth shut because she's playing both sides. The typical gossip that acts like everyone's friend but will be the first to stab you in the back. Know what I mean?

Isn't that just like a woman. Using one man to get to another because of another woman! What tangled webs we weave...

I think Kate is super Jealous of Jack spending all his time with Juliette While I think se cares for Sawyer, I also think she is using him. My thought is she told Jack what was going on as a way to try to get his attentions back to her, and the secret club they used to have.

I didn't hear him say he was going to go back to Ben, but it sure was implied. I heard him say that he was starting on his own path. That, to me, means that he is going to look out for himself and himself only. I don't think he is spying on the castaways or he would have gone back to the beach. I don't think he's spying on the Others, either, but using them for something.

Yeah, I took the fact that he was "carrying his father's body on his back" as meaning he was going back to Ben.

I don't think Locke is spying for the others. I think he is wanting to know what the hell is going on. I also think he wants to know why he can walk again. I think Locke will stay with the others until he finds out what is going on. Than maybe he will go back to his people. Depending on what he finds. I think the others have a special plan for him to use him against the his people. It seems anyone who goes to the others start to turn against their own people..Even Jack is being to secrtive in my opinion. I don't Juilette because she is for the others. I think Jack is only only with his people again to help Juilette and the others.

I think Locke, above all, has this fixation with the island. It isn't about the Others or the Losties, it is his relationship with this entity that he seems to consider to be more or less an sentient being. He is going to do whatever he thinks the island wants him to do. That's my take.

Yeah, I agree... but he could respect the other Losties' decisions to leave the island. If he wants to stay, let him stay. But I think nobody would force him to go back, if he didn't want to. Sometimes he's a selfish pain in the a** that doesn't care about anyone but him.

Locke doens't make any sense to me! Sometimes he seems so clever... sometimes, so dumb (like the day he entered 77). He is selfish and all he wants to do is to be on the island, no matter what. I think he's on his own side... whatever or whoever helps him to stay in the island will get his support.

I have to agree with that one. He wants to stay on the island so bad that he blew up the submarine..remember? I do think Locke is all for himself. At what cost he will get it. I think he will be playing both sides. I think the only reason he helped Sawyer with that Tape is so Sawyer would kill that guy. He had to give up something to get what he wanted.

I think that on the island, Locke feels powerful. He's the consummate hunter. He wants so badly to stay on the island because he feels the island healed him, and he wants to explore its mysteries, even if it means joining up with the Others to find out what the heck is going on there. Back in the real world he was nothing. People used him, took advantage of him. He was weak. But on the island, he answers to no one and I think that makes him feel good. He's not a killer. He doesn't have it in him. If he did, he wouldn't have had so many problems back in his old life. Even though he feels powerful on the island, he's still John Locke, and can't bring himself to take a life no matter what they've done to him. So he recruited Sawyer, knowing that he would take care of the job for him. (I hope that this doesn't mean Sawyer will die in the next few episodes since this issue has been resolved). I don't think Locke has any affection for the Others. It's all about him and the island. Why he wouldn't let everyone else leave and him stay by himself, though, I don't know.

I dont think Locke has any loyalties to anyone but himself. He may feel affection for some of them but no real loyalty. Like when he went to say goodbye to kate, he seemed a little sad about what he had learned about her. When he said he was on his own path now, I think he means to join the others, but only to discover more things about himself and the island. I think he is using Ben so he can find out more about the island, which he seems to have a strong connection with. Not sure if I like Jack anymore, and it will be interesting to see how he and everyone else reacts when Sawyer brings back the tape of Juilette reporting to Ben. Juilette is strange, as she seems to hate Ben immensely, yet is still working for him?

I can't be sure on Locke. I know he wants to stay on the island- His life is better there- He can walk. I don't think he will go back to the "losties" so maybe he will stick around and become an Other- After all the others seem to think he is special- And he did carry his dad on his back to somewhere?? could it be to the others to show that he could kill him- and that he is special?

Actually, Locke said that he was on his own journey now. I think Locke is in a different place. He is loosely concerned with the "LOSTies" and interested in what the others know. I think at the end of the day he is his own person now.
