I have a future All-Star on my hands and he's only 16 months old!

Since my son was able to sit up he has been throwing balls with exterme accuracy. He loves balls and anything that is slightly round he assumes is a ball ... for instance, his grapes and corn! I have several friends who all have children the same age as him and none of them throw balls as well as he does. As a matter-of-fact he's better at throwing balls then both our 3 (almost 4) year old and our 2 year old. He loves balls so much that he's even began sleeping with a ball! On top of all of this over the past two weeks he's began to kick the ball as well. My older children still struggle with this! Do you think that this is any indication that he will be an athlete when he's older? Is it just a stage? Is there any way of knowing at this age if he has the potential to be an All-Star athlete that will earn millions of dollars and buy his mama everything I've ever dreamed of! LOL! Do any of you have children that were obsessed with balls as toddlers and are grown now? Do they still play ball?

Of course he is going to be a All-Star athlete! Look at him, and how he throws and kicks. He is going to be your life-savor!! LOL :) That is very interesting that your youngest son throws better than your other older two. He could either have good balance at this young of an age, or he could just like the ball and what he could do to play with it!! :D I would just encourage and play with him if I was you! Then, it might actually keep him interested, and going somewhere! :DD

My older two kids are girls and I've heard that girls don't develop motor skills as early as boys do. I've noticed that my son is a better climber too. I'm not sure if that's the case here ... what do you think?

I have never heard that boys develop their motor skills first. The climbing could have something to do with it....but, it could also be that you have a very adventurous, and curious boy!! :D

My fourth child was like that too and it amazed me! Not only did he have accuracy, he also had drive. That is...if he threw it at you, expect it to hurt! ha ha He is not so great at kicking with accuracy. LOL I got the ouch on my backside to prove it the other day while I was weeding. ha ha He doesn't throw as much as he used to. He began to loose interest. But now that his brothers are getting older and playing football, he has recently become interested again. So, I will just let him be and see where he takes it. :) If you want to keep him interested in hopes that he will one day buy his Momma all the things she desires...maybe you should see about getting him involved in a little Tike's league. :) That could be loads of fun!

Ahhh...I forgot about him! He was a very good thrower, and it did hurt when he threw things at you. For a little dude, he sure had a strong arm!! :) And, Brokentia, that is a lovely idea. I agree, getting him involved like that because he has a passion for throwing things would be fun for the both of you!! :D

I think it is definately an indiciation of a future all star and a mansion in Beverly Hills looms in your future! Sounds like he should get every opportunity to hone his skills and see how far his interess take him. Why knows, maybe only the sky will be the limit. Have fun with him!
