In your opinion, how does President Bush rank compared to other US presidents?

Do you think he's the greatest president ever? Or the worst? Somewhere in the middle?
I wouldn't say I consider him to be one of the worst presidents, but I can't say that I agree with most of his policies, so he ranks fairly low for me. I'd like to hear what other people think.

He may not be the best ever, he is certainly not a Reagan, but he has done a really good job with all that he has had to contend with.
The economy is stronger that when he took office, he is fighting a war that was set up by his predecessor, he had to deal with a major terrorist attack that was caused by his predecessor's foreign policy, and he is standing by the decisions that he has made despite the rabid opposition of his political rivals.
This is the mark of a true leader.
I would say that he is in the top ten.

Bush has taken steps, and these do seem to be having an effect.
I have also noticed that the news is now starting to acknowledge that there is in fact terrorist activity in Iraq, namely al-Qaida, and one of it's fronts that calls itself The Islamic State.
This would indicate that Bush was correct in his assessment about this being a war on terrorism, and not a civil war as some would like for us to believe.
You do of course remember al-Qaida...they are the same fine folks that brought us 9-11.
Have no doubt that if we do not defeat them in Iraq, we will be fighting them here.

Destiny my friend please wake up and smell the coffee. "If we don't fight them there, we will be fighting them here," is one of the lamest after the fact excuses I've ever heard. Of course they are fighting "us" there. We are invaders in the middle east's back yard. Terrorists are flocking there in droves to fight us, no one disputes that.
Yes I do remember Al-Qaida, they are the terroist organization that rules much of Afganistan where *all* of our troops should have been. I find it rather suspect that the majority of the 9/11 attackers came from Saudi Arabia. It is even more suspect that in the days after 9/11 the only non-miltary planes allowed to fly were ones that carried prominent Saudi's back to their home country..including members of the Bin Laden family. Hmm...Saudi Arabia..oh yeah the Bush's have Oil partners there.
On the Subject of terrorists (and this in on topic as it relates to Bush's decisions directly)the problem is that there is no conventional terrorist army to confront directly. That is to say that we cannot bomb the country of Al-Queda. Terrorism is a tactic, and terrorist are not (and especially in this case) an army. Stirring up trouble in the middle east, and picking these fights in Iraq is just angering more, young, poor, Muslim males and the majority of the followers of Islam. Don't you think that by some freak occurance Libya were to invade and occupy canada that we wouldn't rush up North to get them out of "our" backyard?
One last point, even the Republicans of which I am one by the way (aside from the oracle bush) have conceeded that it is indeed a cival war going on over there.
While I respect your opinions Destiny and your right to have and express them, I just don't agree with them.

I think Bush is borderline retarded. He is one of the worst presidents the USA has ever had, kind of like his dad. I sure hope they don't give Jeb Bush a shot at president too! I think even Nixon was a better president.

I agree with you about Bush whywiki, but Nixon was actually a pretty good President. He brought and end to the Vietnam conflict and opened up dialogue and trade with China. His questionable politics aside, he should not be singled out for watergate because right or wrong most Presidents have used the very same tactics during their time in office. He did however, get caught.

well I can't say if the Presidents were better or worst before my time, because all I got to go one are history books, and at times they can be inaccurate.
In my life time though, Bush has been the worst president. He has lied to the American people again and again. He has said that he basically don't care if people like what he does anymore, because they voted him in, and he can do what he wants now.
Look at all the veto's he has ordered, way to many. I believe he needs to be impeached, but with the elections so close now, it would do no good anyways.

History will show him to be one of the better presidents. While other presidents have had to deal with an opposition party, President Bush has had to deal with near traders. You have a Congress that is acting like a Commander in Chief and is trying to run the executive branch as well as the legistative branch. You have Opposition Leaders declairing that we have lost the war, they are talking to hostal foreign governments and deliveringfalse information from other governments. He has a press that will print any secret they can get even if it puts the country at risk.
He has taken the US from a recession brought on by the Democratics
Tax and Spend policies under President Clinton and build one of the strongest economies in the world. We have almost no unemployment, income is up, taxes are down but tax revenue is up, every economic indicator is strong. He has dealt with the worst attack on the US since Pearl Harbor. He undrstands the enemy we are fighting and why it is important to win the war and establish a democracy in the middle east.

Very nice comment. It is nice to see people saying this when the media won't.

I'm expecting the star rateing hits, but my opinion is that he will go down in history as one of the worst presidents ever. With the rampant cronyism, mishandled war, reaction to Hurricane Katrina, outing a CIA operative, the huge economic deficit and everything else that has happened, it just seems that everything Bush touches falls apart. For the record I am no bleeding heart liberal, I am in fact a registered, voteing Republican.

I think History will look at most of those issues in the correct light. Katrina and the CIA operative will probably not even be mentioned in conjunction with Bush in history books 20 to 30 years from now. Many of the problems laid at Bush's feet don't hold up when one looks at the facts.

History is written by the victors, so I guess it depends on which political party stays in power the most over the next 20-30 years as to what is written about the Bush presidential legacy.
An interesting sidenote, I remember reading a college textbook printed in 2002 that basically stated that Bush was a great President and that he was "the great uniter" of the American people. See above paragraph.

It's a tough call. I don't think he is the best President, but I think he is at least in the upper tier. He isn't even the worst in my life time (I think Jimmy Carter gets that honnor). I would say he is probably in the top ten Presidents of all time.
