Well having seven cats myself I know what you are talking about, there is no way to get rid of the problem short of shaving your cat. But what I use to get rid of the hair is a really good lint brush I find it easier then taking out a vacume every time.

I have 3 of them and I brush them everday. If you dont you will have the hair problems. And especially now because they are shedding their old hair for the summer time. At least mine are. Also giving them a bath a couple times a year is good too. But if you dont know how to do that I suggest you take them to the groomers. You will see a big difference.

Poor diet is a big cause of excess shedding. Check your cat food label for fillers such as grains, corn, etc. Try switching to a quality, grain free food and see if that doesn't help.
Daily brushing will also reduce the amount of hair around the house, as well as vacuuming a few times a week.

We have a LOT of pets here so I find it's best to just do a quick vacume every day. It only takes a few minutes! You could also brush your cat daily. This helps pull out the loose fur in a way that you can gather it up easily and throw it away before it gets everywhere.
