I understand being young and having to establish your own identity. I think often as we get older, we forget those days of (for me) bell bottoms and afro poofs and disco dresses... But I don't get the baggy pants thing, particularly as it is associated with "thug life." It would seem to me that if I wanted to be a real criminal, I would want to wear things that were sleek and areodynamic so as I was trying to make my get away, my pants would not fall down.
