What could you not live without?

Okay, say you are told you have to give up a lot of your favorite things--that is television, books, computers,or music and could only live with only one--what would it be...could you live without the others or would you go a tad daft? LOL For me it's a hard choice as I love all...but I guess I would say computer would be the thing I couldn't give up..at least with a computer, technically speaking I could still read on-line, listen to music and even watch tv

I thought the same thing. I can watch missed episodes on the computer. Heck, there was a recording error last week on my cable DVR and I was able to watch that episode online. There are e-books and many places that are free. But if I had to...I would buy them on the computer too. I could still play games online. I could still do my photography on the computer. I could keep up with the news. Listen and watch music videos. Even download movies! All of the things I enjoy, rolled into one. :)

I wanna play! Could you give me a link? You might like to try Neopets if you have not already. :) I have been a member there for 6 years. LOL Its not a place that you earn money or anything. It is just a place to have fun and play some games. But of course, it is also a virtual pet. :) And from all the different species of pet and colors, you can customize your own. http://www.neopets.com/refer.phtml?username=brokentia They have faeries there too. :)

For me, I could give up the technology. I'd be happy to sit and read all day long and far into the night. Of course, I can't possibly do that and survive. But I love nothing better than curling up with a good book

I would have to say my books because I have been not looking at TV for 3 weeks now and it doesn't bother me.

I don't watch much tv and I never read books so I really wouldn't miss them too much. I love music but I could deal with not having it. But I know I could not live without my computer.

I think as a 50+ person I'm only as old as I feel. But between the fibromyalgia & the news I got today from my uncle didn't help.

TV is not a big issue with me..don't watch much..I don't have cable anymore..and the reception with my dinky antennae is lousy..do miss VH-1, the discovery channel, history channel and bravo though..usually wind up putting one of my DVD movies to watch

I would have to keep my computer. It can replace the tv, radio, or books. But, I would still miss my 59" tv.

OMG---a 59" TV...I only have a little dinky 13"--and I haven't had cable in a long time so that's probably one of the reasons I wouldn't miss TV

...I do everything on line including reading books...but if I have to keep just one....maybe I would say books....because books are forever...computers have limited time...I have one book that was published 70 years ago....way before computers time....

Well let's see... This is a really hard question that I'm not sure I'll have an answer for. I love watching the tele for several reasons. I love watching my shows to help me unwind and relax. Not to mention movies... I also have to watch the weather - especially when the weather is bad. Now I could do some of that on the computer but it's just not the same. And I couldn't watch the up to date severe weather alerts. I love reading and gaining knowledge because I think it's very important part of life (learning). It's essential for me. Not all books are online and I actually hate reading online. Aside from emails and things like this. But I couldn't actually sit and read a book online. It would drive me crazy. I prefer reading where I have the book in my hands and can be very comfortable. I can take it anywhere I want (even the bathroom LOL). So I know I could NOT give up books. I admit I don't listen to music as much as I would like to but I still couldn't give music up entirely either. It can pick me up when I need it...and well it's hard to explain what all music does for you. I believe that it too is an essential part of our lives. And as you stated I could listen to music online - but not in my car which is one of my favorite places to listen to it :) Now I guess if I had to give up one it would be computers although I would hate that too. Because that would mean that I would lose touch with most of my family and friends because I'm not much of a letter writer and I hate talking on the phone. Plus I can send emails at anything that is convenient for me. Like in the middle of the night as I work third shift. People never know when to call because of that too.

As reading some of the other posts I became a bit...confused. You were wanting to know of the four things that you listed right?

I thought so...but I thought maybe I missed something LOL. I can understand the need for a computer especially in your circumstance :)

That's right...the question was about those four...but let's face it..some people just don't read too well..LOL--that's okay though..not going to get in a tizzy about it...I'm not much for reading on-line really myself..but at least on a computer you can...and now that I'm trying to build a work at home business on the computer with my photo work it's a real asset for me...

This is a hard one. I could do okay without the TV. I don't watch it much anymore anyway. I guess I could hum my own music if I had to. It would be unbearable without a computer but I guess I'd have to let that go too if it meant not having books. I couldn't get through a day without books.

I could never live without my books. I am a confirmed book addict, a certified bookworm so I could never do without my daily dosage of books. I read whatever I could get my hands on but mostly I read romance novel. I'm a sucker for happy endings. However when romance starts to go stale, I start reading suspense or even scientific journal just to add variety. My day is never complete if I couldn't read a book. So I'd give up everything except my books if such a scenario would happen. LOL!

I agree with you there, the computer is the most versatile thing invented so far. I am a veritable hermit besides so it is my contact without the outside world. All my friends are here on the puter.

Like you, I would definitely pick the computer. I have a lot of things I am running on the computer, such as doing myLot, managing my email and my own blogs, etc... I can definitely live without the other things, and like you said, I can still get them on the computer anyway! So if I could only live with one of these things it would have to be the computer. I use the computer most anyway, it's just more handy and there's more to do on it. I could never get bored with the computer, but I could easily with books or the TV.

I will probably give up my television cause I CAN watch DVD's on my computer lol. I'm a music freak and also an internet addict so I don't think I can give those up. I however went a whole week without those things when I went to camp but during those days I wasn't so much of a computer junkie yet.

i couldn't live without my laptop.really!it has been an important part in my life, taking up the second largest part of a day-the first largest is sleeping.it is computer that accompanies with me when i am along in the room.it is computer that "reads" my complains and "saves"them.it is computer that helps me get in touch with others without going out.it is computer that has become a window for me know what had had happened in the world....i am a introversive guy so most of time i'd like to stay alone in stead of go out with my friends.but i don't feel lonely, because computer can give me what i want and can make me relaxed.so i treat my laptop just like one if my best friends and take good care of her.so i can't imagine of my life without her.

I believe she was asking you which of the four : books, music, TV, or the computer could you live without :)

It would be books, for me. Yes, the computer has a million and one uses and I could probably spend the rest of my days entertaining myself on it. But I love books: I love to read, I love to curl up with one and read myself to sleep, I love the way they feel in my hands and look in my home. I like the formality of a leather-covered hardback book and the casual coziness of a well-worn paperback. While I would miss the dozens of things I can do on the computer, I could still write by hand and use a typewriter. [shudders] But to me, there is nothing like reading a real book. With a cup of coffee and some music in the background. I can't live without those, either. LOL
