That elusive affinity between a man and a woman, often called "chemistry," may actually exist at the cellullar level-namely, between sperm and egg. Some women's ovaries contain a powerful fluid that acts a s a chemical magnet, luring the fittest and most viable sperm to the egg, according to David Garber, Ph.D., of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. This explains why some women are more fertile than others, and why only 200 of the 280 million or so sperm that are released will actually reach that highly discriminating egg.

Males and females also secrete a chemical called 'pheromones' in order to attract the opposite gender.
