The Honesty Store

A self-service store that says: "Kindly place your payment in the box! Thank you!"I was amazed when i saw that inside the retreat house i and my colleagues went mid of April this year. They have this cabinet type store where you get goodies and pay it yourself and take your change out from the box if it's needed. It is something that everybody wishes to have, if you can only trust people.. this is a less expenses kind of store. You don't need a store in-charge to look over your goodies as people will honestly take and pay the things they will be needing; but of course, in our generation today, this is not possible... if you put that kind of store in the public area, surely some people will take adavantage and the next thing you know after 30 minutes all your goods for sale are stolen...lolz... we can hardly trust people these days.. there might be one in ten who can be honest, but even that, is so rare to find.

Remarkable. . and that is in the Philippines! I share your thoughts regarding this practice of trusting people to pay for what they have taken from the store--which is self-service and there is no need of a storekeeper. You're right, if it were in another place, the owner would be out of business because people will take advantage by helping themselves with the goods for sale without paying. At least this is one store which trains people to be honest--but for how long? I know that there are such stores in other countries which are self-service and people can really be trusted because they really pay for the goods they purchase.

This will not work in common places we have like convenient stores that are placed in public. Better you said that its indeed inside of retreat house. I know that it would be shameful to take advantage of it when you are there to do or practice good things. Only those with pure heart will do things accordingly and will let this kind of store in business without suffering loss.
How I wish that all establishment are retreat house so we can move freely without minding about thief and snatchers. Its close to impossible with the current situation we have here in your country. Maybe when government do it supposed to do of lifting the life of common citizen from poverty, then someday this scenario will be probably come true.
