Do car and bike racing burn up too much fuel??!!

Car and bike racing - is there a lot of fuel wasted in racing?

This thought just crossed my mind more than a few times and I just wanna know whether I'm the only dude who thought this way. I'm not against the racing - just curious about how much fuel is burnt in races every day and does it compare to say fuel wasted in idling cars, traffic jams, inefficient cars, unnecessary vehicle use etc etc. I have absolutely no idea and just wanted your opinion on the issue. If the fuel spent in racing is very tiny comparitively, I'm sorry - but I cant help being curious as to what other people think of this issue!!

They(racing cars and bikes) are burning a lot of fuel but in the world are other things that burn fuel useless such as military vehicles and ships that are burning thousand times more than racing in the world.

ships and military vehicles esp aircrafts do use aup a lot of fuel - but are they a waste?

Yes they do, the racing cars and motorcicles burn up fuel 5x times faster than a normal car, this is mainly because of their incredibly strong machines, a 12 cylinder car will burn a full tank of gas at full speed in about 12 minutes.

Yes I also agree that racing and speeding burns more fuels. During high speed there will be more resistance from the wind and more fuel is consumed. There are lots of ways of saving fuel of car and bikes. Some tips are here. http://tipsandtechniquestosavefuel.blogspot.com/

Though i am also of the idea that we must try to save fuel and try out variosu options keeping in view the rising costs of the fuels and it aftereffects like pollution and other like green house effects .But i am certainly not against racing as i love to watch them .YA one thing which can be done is just to reduce no of races or something like more efficient technolgy

hey you are very correct to this as fuel is going at its high price we are supposed to save it for better couse. I am also using car and bike but i speed up my cars whenever i am getting late or find a safe way unneccasory driving fast will cost you and cost on environment as well. So i think we are supposed to burn fuel smartly.

yes a very noble thought has been raised. I think they burn out too mucyh fuel. More the cc of a vehicle less the average it gives. Say 1500 cc bikes give average of about 50kmpl then a 600 cc will give you about 20 kmpl. So the fuel is wasted a lot. Burnout has a different meaning when we relate it to bike stunts. Burnouts mean to bring out smoke from your bikes engine, you have seen many people doing this- hold on your disk brakes tightly and raise the throttle in 2nd gear...so high ..more...more and more..till the engine doesnt burn OUT! BUt this harms engine a lot so dont try that every! Fuel spent in sports has good points on both the sides i will prefer to be neutral.

Yes I also think bike racing and car racing consume more fuel than normal driving. Driving around 40 to 55 kilometers an hour is economic. When the speed increases the wind resistance also increases, which leads to more consumption of fule. Also, frequent shifting of gears and clutches also leads to consume more fuel. Traffic jams also consume more fuel. One way to save fuel and stay healthy is going for walking or cycling for shorter distances and using vehicles for longer distances.

They sure do when compared with the normal drive. but as a whole the number of races being less, I dont think it must be that bad.

Myabe the number of racing cars is so small that compared to the daily use vehicles, their contribution to pollution and fuel consumption must be less. Maybe someone can try doing a rough calculation!!
