Giving kids money

At what age should a parent give their kids money. Sooner or later they should learn to handle money.

Our son is 20months old and he has a little money box. We give him 5 euro every few days or so and he puts it into his money box. Then every 2 to 3 months, we empty it and bring him into town to buy some new stuff such as clothes and toys.
