I have been using Windows for last 5 yrs. I had tried out various Linux version but not even one was able to configure my dial up internet connection. I simply could not install my modem. Now i have broadband which does not need any configuration but again, linux must be able to install my lan card anyways. Which OS do you use to access internet???

my children will not shake off from using windows for our operating system. i have asked them to try others around, but they had kept on insisting that window is so far, the friendliest one around. for the so many years that i have been using computers, it is only the windows operating system that i am familiar of. i am sorry to disappoint you when it comes to computers. i am just basically, a plain user. i am dependent upon my kids for so many things.

I use Windows XP Professional Edition and am quite happy and satisfied with it. It does not give me any trouble installing various software and hardware. After all, an OS is used as a tool to manage your computer and get things done. So I always prefer Windows for Desktops and Laptops. I've even used the Windows 2003 Server @ Office and find it quite secure. Basically Computers are invented to make our work easier and faster; so it depends on you with which OS you're comfortable and productive!

I've read an article on Security of Linux and Windows. It states that of course the raw Windows (without patches) has lot of holes as compared to raw Linux. But when you install all the security patches on Linux and Windows as well, Windows gets fully secured whereas Linux still remains with few holes.

Actually, most of the Linux installations by default reformats the whole drive and ask for repartitioning(to create swap partition). You need to be careful while installing the Linux versions and choose advanced setting to partition and format the hard disk the way we want. What I do is, before installing Linux, I format a partition and create a swap partition of say 1 or 2 gb from the formatted partition from Windows itself. Then I start installing Linux and choose the formatted drive as root drive and new partition as swap partition. This way you will not have to format whole disk.....

i have been using windows OS for the last 7 years, though i only owned my personal computer 4yrs ago, i haven't tried using other OS but i am satisfied with what i have right now, im already used to it and i can easily find a solution to repair problems with the OS or i can simply pinpoint wich hardware has a problem.
for me, microsoft windows is the one im used to, but i havent mastered it that much so i wont mess with the other OS yet.
