Excluding household items like curtains, rugs, or even furniture (which you can buy at Walmart, ect.), what is the most expensive grovery item you buy? I would also exclude alcohol because although I don't drink, I know it can be expensive. So, what would you say?

It seems that now a days everything a grocery store becoming expensive. But yes there are more expensive stufs. Actually you will be able to find less things which cost less thean things which cost more. In expensive stuff we buy shrimp and fresh fish. This two item cost a lot. My hubby is a pure non vegetarian, so we need this stuff and meat regularly.

Yes, if a person wants fresh fish, it costs a lot. There is always frozen fish and shrimp, which costs a lot still, but perhaps doesn't have the same fresh taste.

Mine would be something like an exotic international cheese. It could be freeze dried fruit. The freeze dried fruit comes in a .75 oz. bag and it is $1.50! Not even an ounce!

I was trying to think of what is the most expesive item we get. Just one item I mean. I think it would be the chicken or if we are lucky a ham or turkey but those aren't our usual items. Chicken though we get every time we shop and that has been getting more and more expensive lately.

There are some pasta dishes that we like to eat that have either chicken or shrimp with them. The bags they come in aren't really that big and with us having four in our family I usually need to buy about three of them to feed all four of us. That can add up.

First I was thinking fresh produce, but I think it's cheese. I buy a lot of cheese, and now I'm hooked on Asiago cheese, and I use it on so many things. It's about $9 for a big chunk of it, but it lasts me a long time. Another close tie would be those specialty hot sauces. My husband is addicted to them, and he has hot sauce on everything, even eggs.

I can understand why you would spend money on asiago cheese. It is sooo good! Have you had asiago cheese bread? I love it so much, but I only eat it once in a blue moon. Also, asiago cheese is not sold in my local grocery store.

That's a good idea. My parents are members. Could you PM me or even reply to this discussion with the recipe? If it is too much trouble, I understand. : )

I make asiago cheese bread in my breadmaker. It's my family's favorite. I like to make it to take to parties too. I get my cheese at Sam's club. It's the cheapest place, and the asiago cheese is the best there.

I drink Silk soy milk and that is pretty expensive. So I would say that Silk is the most expensive thing I buy.

The other thing I like about soy milk is that it does not spoil as fast as cow milk.

I would have to say Tide laundry detergent in the great big bottle. I've spent as much as $22.00 on it. It's expensive but it's worth the cost since you don't have to use as much for a load as other detergents, and therefore it lasts a lot longer.

I would have to say my meats are the most exspensive. Any number of items could rank right up there with the meat, like ice cream, it's gone through the roof with the prices, and fresh produce. But meat is my most exspensive purchase at the grocery store. Glad I don't drink or smoke, that is a luxury only for people with money to burn.

Or for people who don't mind being in debt or getting addicted to something. Smoking in particular.

I forgot about animal things. I know the puppy pads I buy for my two dogs are really expensive. I belong to some points thing, and you know what I'm saving my points for? Not perfume, not a magazine subscription, but puppy pads - 100 of them. LOL

Stuffs like washing powder, detergent for the floor are the most expensive of all the stuffs I buy but I would assume grocery shopping include only food or edible items. Consolidating all expenses for all items bought in a month, the most expensive items I buy are fruits. I buy fruits almost every other day.

So the fruit is always fresh. If I could stand going to the grocery store every day, I'd do the same thing. I love fresh fruit.

I think most expensive item i bought are those electronics item like fridge, tv, dvd player, kitchen ware. However we only buy those item once in a long while, so not sure if they were counted. Talking about daily grocery store item, perhaps the most expensive one are those health supplements. Oh, i really wish they are cheaper.

In the discussion topic information, I mentioned that household items like furniture and/or appliances don't count. But vitamin supplements are very expensive, like you said. I guess they know we all want to be healthier and we'll pay for it too. : )

The most expensive thing I buy would be cheeses. I use so much of them that htye are a often a big portion of the shop bill. I might need feta for the tortellini, mozza and parmiagan for the eggplant, chedder, garlic and chive to add on the pizza, Edam or Raucher for the Ruebens, and plain old chedder for sandwiches. No wonder my husband's cholesterol is so high! It's amazing mine isn't!

I think that a lot of things that we buy are expensive. We buy EAS shakes for the 17 grams of protein and they are $6.99 for four. We buy Morning Star and Boca vegetarian products and those are $2.99 - $4.99 each. We buy Almond Milk which is $3.99 a container. Eric gets carb control yogart which is expensive. Sometimes fruits and vegies can be expensive when we buy the more exotic ones. We are vegetarians and very health conscious...

Most of our grocery stores carry it - it's in the same aisle as the soy milk, and rice milk. It's better for you than rice milk and tastes better than soy milk.

I love the Morning Star food line, but since it is higher in my price range, I don't get it often. I have never heard of Almond Milk, do you have to go to a speciality store to buy it?

Well I just got back from the grocery store. My daughter has been begging for weeks for some crab legs. She was unusually persuasive today and I ended up buying a bag. They are SOO high. But we do not have them often, and they really are a delicious treat. So this time that has to be the most expensive food item I bought. I spend the most money on cereal and milk on average though. We go through both fast.

We don't get them often. I know the butcher at the store and I had to ask him for them. They were not in the freezer. He , Ummm... got me a good deal?!LOL I only got 5 king crab legs. They were good. I got home and didn't have the Old Bay seasoning, so we cooked 2 and I will get some spice and do the other 3 tomorrow. They are very good with the Old Bay!

Oh, you are a good mother! I love crab legs, but my mom would never buy them. And who could blame her? They ARE so expensive. Now that I live on my own, I can't afford them either. : )

We are big meat eaters and seem to spend a fortune on meat. We have to have hamburger and steaks and sometimes a roast or a ham. Can get very pricey. But its so good!

I don't go to walmart but so far the most expensive stuff we get from grocery store here is my pet's litter :) thank God we don't have to buy it every week and we only have one cat ! Food wise I'd say certain types of seafood or salami but we rarely buy them

I just used Walmart as an example, because they and Target sell furniture as well as groceries. I go there because they are the cheapest I can find. And boy, anything that has to do with pets are expensive! I guess maybe seafood is expensive because it goes bad faster than other foods, so they lose more money on it? I just don't know. It's so silly!

For me it's either Redbull or meat. Probably meat, this of course depends on what sales they have going on, and how good a cut I decide to buy.

Sadly, it's usually a 24-pack of soda that ends up being the most expensive thing on our receipt. Luckily, I've made my fiance realize this, and he has agreed to cut back on his soda consumption.
