According to Eonline, LOST has been renewed for a fourth season, and will be going off-air two seasons from now. This fits in with the producer's original estimate that they only had enough storyline to accommodate five seasons. So I'm happy with that. I'd be a lot more upset if they decided to cancel in season three and try to cram two seasons of answers into the next few weeks.

I think its important for produces to understand the limit of their concept. Some shows run too long and let an idea run thin other shows barely see the light of day.. but i think going out on the top is best for your shows history.. As we improve our video capabilities the whole series of lost could be on a single disc so might as well make it good! Look at Seinfeld I think they got out right around the top of their limit and the show is remember fondly because of it.

whew - i can do 2 more seasons...but they had better tie up all the loose ends!! I love this show but I don't want the writers to bastardize the storyline just for longevity sake!

I hope they don't end it too soon. There are too many questions to be answered and to much to resolve, the cure to prevent pregnant women from dying before the third trimester. And there's the smoke monster, who the Others really are, where the Island really is --if it is in a sort of Bermuda Triangle, whether Ben was conceived on Island or off, if being on the Island long time reduces the miracle cures given to newcomers, etc.

Precisely. Shows that stay too long, like Friends or X-Files just run out of story after a while and get pretty stale. The problem with LOST will be tying up all the storylines. Every answer leads to another question, so it will be difficult for them to resolve the show in a satisfying way.

There is too many questions to be answered in just four seasons considering Lost is in real time and not in four years as it would be had it been done as many other shows have been. In the Lost time line, it is not 2007 but still 2004 or 2005 and only a few months since they landed. For instance, the cure to prevent the pregnant women dying will take some time -estimating that one season equals one month. Finding out where they really are will take some time as well. Finding out who the Others really are will also take a longer period and whether they were brought there by Dharma time as well. Oh yes and who is the Smoke Monster? So unless they want things to remain as they were, Lost had better be on for at least a couple of more seasons. ?

As much as I got sucked into lost and love the show (We rented the first season dvd from the video store - then went back for the next 6 that night) it really annoys me when they take these long breaks. Ive read that when they take these long breaks, their viewership goes down a lot, seems like taking a whole season to make 2 new seasons is like cutting off your foot to save your arm?

that's good news,
now days television producers are a lot organised - every new show is usually planned for 5 seasons i have heard. like they said that prison break will also be a total of 5 seasons.

Are you talking about the hiatus they have in seasons or the long gap they have from season to season? If you're talking about seasonal hiatus, they're going to release the fourth season in January this time. So there will no longer be breaks between episodes. :P Unless you consider a week a long wait..

I think this will be good for the show, I want to see some of the mysteries resolved.
