In a recent discussion I started, it was commented that drug addiction is a disease. To me a disease is something you are genetically born with or something such as cancer, parkinsons, etc. I have never considered drug addiction or alcoholism a disease. In my opinion, you know the consequences of taking drugs or drinking alcohol. A person is willing doing something to their body that they know is wrong. What is your opinion?

Cancer you do not have to be genetically born with. Diabetes is something you can form due to a lifestyle as well, same goes for in example lung cancer or liver cirrhosis. Genetics definitely don't play a role in every disease.
Personally I wouldn't definite an addiction as a disease though, although many addictions can lead to diseases.
