have you ever lost your employment? how were you told?
did the boss tell you in person? did he send someone else to tell you? maybe you were given the infamous "pink slip"
What words were used? were they angry?
Donald Trump says, "You're Fired" on his popular show "The Apprentice" I wonder why we use the term "Fired" maybe because the news leaves us burning!

Oh, i still remember the first time when it happened. They gave me a rest for a week because of my birthday. And when i came back, i just saw somebody on my work bureu to work with my documents...
Later they sent me to the Personnel Department to finalize the documents. And all this they made without any normal explanation.

Almost the same thing with me. They called me on my last of my normal day off and asked me to come in early in the morning. I wasn't due in to work until about 11am. Afterwards, they told me to take the rest of the day off. Like I would be able to work after that.

I have only fired people lol. Just give them the letter, offer a hand shake, then say bye bye. Be professional. *wink*

Hello, modestah,i have been working for one job only and luckily i have not been fired yet.
I think the boss will tend not to tell the staff about firing them face to face as it will be very embarassing for both parties,it may be better for the boss to tell all the staff about the plan of firing some staff in the company so that they have some preparations before they are fired, and the staff should be better notified with the 'pink slip', and some gentle words should be used, for example, the boss can say the company has ven affected adversely in the financial downturn and there is a need to cut down expenditure in order for the company to stay alive, and tell the staff their hard work have been appreciated and the company will be able to offer further assistance to the staff.

It happened when I was still in College. It was not a formal employment really. I was a Student Assistant then. I worked at the University Library for more than a year. There was this incident where I had an argument with a Law student during one of my duties. When our University Librarian knew about the incident, she immediately called for my attention and right then and there (in front of the students), she told these things " If you can't perform your responsibilities well you better resign". It was kinda devastating. She acted unprofessionally. She should have invited me in her office and talk about the stuffs privately. It would be more proper. Anyway, maybe that's her style of releasing her anger. So, I just kept quiet and did what she wanted me to do - that's to resign...

Yep, in March I was called into the office of my employment and told by the GM that "they were making some changes in the office and that my services were no longer needed." I totally wasn't expecting because my work was great and I had just gotten a raise like two weeks before. I'm still a little ticked. My question that I wanted an answer to was if they were making changes why get rid of the supervisor? Why not fire someone working under me? But anyway, what goes around comes around and the payback started that afternoon to the place and I didn't even have to do anything. Hahahaha!!!!! What's even worse is they told unemployment I was laid off due to lack of work at the office. Ummm, hello in there, you hired 4 people to take my place and there's no work, yeah right. I won't forget them or forgive them easily since they have known me my whole life and I even grew up with their kids. The manager over me couldn't even look me in the eye. I know that there was something screwy with the whole thing but there's nothing I can do about it right now. You got me "Fired" up about this discussion Modestah. :-)
