Do you have an electric scooter to help you get around?

I can only walk for short distances before I basically just fall over. I have found that it is just easier to stay home and not go anywhere because its just too much trouble, hassle, pain.... I have a million excuses for staying home but really, it's just hard to get out and around to do anything.
So here's my question, do you have one of those electric scooters that they advertise on television? Do you know anyone who does have one? Do they really help? Are they hard to have and use and upkeep?
Sometimes I use the electric cart at Wal-Mart and I am able to shop which wears me out but it feels good to at least do something to help myself and my family.
I appreciate any thought and comments that you may have about electric scooters or electric wheelchairs. Thank you in advance.

I know a lady who has one & I think she's gone out with it twice, maybe.
On the other hand, at the place my mom lives there are a couple of people who have them. They aren't allowed to take them to the diningroom, but the rest of their getting around they can use them & I see them out & doing things all the time.
I think this lady is just putting her own barriers up because she really doesn't want to have to go out & if she makes up excuses then she doesn't.

Hi, horsesrule! I just brought a new scooter last week. It cost 200USD and it's pretty cool! I used it go to work and come back home, which is a kind of exercise for me.
I used to walk as exercising last year, I walked 1.5 hours everyday. But I get tired of it, so I bought a scooter.

My sister and one of my nephew's have power chairs. My nephew could not get around without his and he really likes it and couldn't get around at all without it. My sister has had one for somewhere between three and five years and she just won't give up to use it, although it would help her tremendously. She has worn out knees with bone rubbing against bone and it is excruciatingly painful. Her heart is too bad to have surgery on her knees, but she just will not use that power chair, although when she goes to Walmart, which is rare these days, she uses their power chair and cart. I think she feels like she is giving up if she uses that chair, but I think it would be wonderful if she would use it. That is why they have it, is for her to use.

Usually your insurance will pay for it. If you have medicare, I think they cover it. You should check it out. I think that the kind that has a stearing in front of you would not make it very easy to get up close to counters or tables, but many have stearing on the arm of the chair, which I personally think is better.

No, I don't have a scooter. I've seen people on them and they seem pretty versatile. When I was in Walmart earlier this week doing my grocery shopping I saw a gentleman on a scooter as his wife did the shopping. I was surprised at how quick it went and stopped. It looked like it would be a wonderful help for someone that can't walk but wants to be more mobile. I think it would definitely be worth your while to check into it more and do something to help you be more mobile? You sound like you're wanting to get out and do more? Hope this helps? Best of luck to you!! :)

Wish I had an electric scooter or something. Sadly I am not allowed dispite of my difficulty in walking.. On top of the ostio parosis I also have a touch of epylepsy, there for I am not permitted for safty reasons to handle one sadly! So for me it is crutches or a manual wheelchair if walking is too painful for me.

I have 2 bad knees and can't walk very far. I bougth a scooter on Ebay for $250 and it's like brand new. I love it. Try searching ebay for one, it will help you. They are very easy to use, and no upkeep except plug it in when the battery runs out.

I do have one however I'm not in a position where I need to use it every time I go out, but I know the day is coming and when I knew of a good deal on a like new one for a good price I bought it. New here in Canada where I live my scooter brand new would cost 4000.00 and I paid 2000.00. I know a fellow who has one practically wore out. He's more than 800 pounds and can hardly walk. He's still very young and he didn't have much of a life. He had a chance for government funding for a scooter and he took it, he said that scooter opened up a whole new life for him. He went to the mall to the yearly fair and all over the place in it. All there is for maintenance is to plug in your battery pack to keep it charged. The worse thing that could happen is you could need to replace the battery but you need to do that with a car sometimes too. Good Luck

I personally don't have one but my mother had rheumatory arthritis and got to where she couldn't walk her insurance paid for her one she loved it she could go any where in the house or the yard she couldn't take it out places but she had a regular wheel chair for that. She said she didn't feel as helpless with it she could do things that she just couldn't do without one.
