insurance running out, can't pay for medicine.

Our son is Bipolor, manic depression, and schezo (sp?) anyway he turns 22 next month and will not be covered under our insurance anymore. He is on 3 different med's, just got out of the hospital for hearing voices that tells him to hurt himself. We can't afford the doctor's bill and medicine. Is there help for him out there?

At age 22 your son is an adult - I am sure he should qualify for SS or SSI and under that he would also qualify for medicare. Call Social Security or go to the nearest office and make enquiries. Take written proof of your sons diagnosis. Theres help out there for him. You just have to look for it and don't take no for an answer. If you run into a brick wall with the Social Security Office go to your Congressman.

We have already gone the SSI route, and he was refused. I never thought of going to my Congressman. I will try that. We did try Walmart, and his medicine does not quality for the $4 a prescription, and he has three prescriptions now, and may get more at his next doctor's visit which we will have to pay $75 for 15 miniutes. He goes every month. I will have to get the attiude of not taking no for an answer. Thanks for your help.

As far as medication is concerned I too lost my job had no insurance and looked up local mental health center in my town not only do these services help people with mental illnesses they also help you get medication's from the pharmaceutical companies, also they have one on one with therapist and group therapy so allot to choose from.
One sight that you can go to is called patient assistance program.com you can sign up there for free medication's they will mail them to your home.
So contact local mental health or health department best of luck to you.

I am sorry to hear that. That is bad, Although some medicine companies will help people to get the medicine they need you have to know which ones will help and some meds are free. WALMART is starting certain prescriptions for $4.00 a bottle. Have you tought of signing your son up on SSI because he might be eligable for it. I wouldn't give up hope yet. They may still be a way to get his help. well good luck and god bless.

Now days they always turn them down. You can appeal and get a lawyer and then he will be able to draw I wouldn't give up if I was you. My niece who has cystic fibrosis an uncureable disease and she got turned down my sister had to appeal and get a lawyer she is drawing her SSI she will be turning 2 years old in June 19. And she is in the hospital morre ofthen then not.

Yes, I agree with what some of the others have said about his applying for SSI at Social Security Administration.....I'm not sure in your state but in the past here people would qualify for medicaid too with that and get help with costs of medication.
Talk to his psychitrist or the Dr., therapist, team that is treating your son and they should most definitely be able to give you guidance.
