i moved to pa from the ocean of nj. the woods and wilderness is totally new to me. i miss the ocean, big time!! but one night, my husband tried to convince me that the reason our garbage cans were upside down and garbage was strung across my lawn was because there were bears in my yard. i told him he was nuts!! a few nights later, he woke me up from a good sleep screaming that there is a bear looking in my bedroom window. i woke up...looked out the window and saw nothing. so i yelled at him as i walked to the front door. as i swung the front door open, i saw that my husband wasnt lying. there was a 300 lb bear standing in front of my door!!! can you imagine? i screamed and shut the door. i looked out the front window and saw that he wasnt alone. he was having a garbage party with two of his closest and perhaps biggest friends!!! they were huge!! from someone who lived in arizona and las vegas and nj, this was inconceivable!! i used to see horseshoe crabs near my house in nj and i had scorpians and lizards in phoenix so what the hell is up with the bears? anyone else have strange wildlife in your yard? we also have had about 75 wild turkeys run thru our yard, raccoons, possums, skunks and we have no less than 10 deer in our yard at any given time. but the bear still freaks me out. and he is about due for another visit. so what animals have you seen out your windows??

i can understand what you mean really i can. i was raised all over the us and well i have seen my share of wildlife in my yard. we watch all kinds of things in our yard now and i love it. we have squirals, raccoons, possum, beavers, bears, snakes, rabbits, deer, turkey, boar, bats, panthers, bobcats, crawfish, armidillo, lol the list could keep going it seems. i love it at 2am to about 5am they all come up and play in the front and get in the garden. the first time i saw a bear i was working late and came home he was out by hubbys truck i was thinking how am i suppose to get in the house. i ended up staying at the bottom of the drive and just waited for him to go away. then i parked as close as i could and ran inside. lol the snakes and feild mice are what i really hate though. you can see the big things quick not the liilte thing lol

the wildlife at the yard of your house at the wee hours of the morning! that sounds cute for one who is already used to having them around each day.

My husbands parents live way out in the country, they have wild turkeys and deer. But no bears, that would freak me out! My family has a ranch out in the country, like hundred miles out of town and they also have bears. I got trapped in a cabin when I was a kid because one was out there and he wouldn't leave! We didn't have any weapons, it was just my mom, sister, and I. We didn't even have a phone. We never stayed in that cabin again lol, we went to the big house that most of the family lived in.

not much wildlife in our country which can cause panic. there are a lot of snakes around at the farm, then birds, there are other small animals, too. it must be awesome to behold those bears. i understand that that will be so frightening encountering one at the doorstep. yes, i can feel the excitement myself. i have seen bears at the zoos only and they are kept at such safe distance as to enjoy them fully.

it appears to me that they only come out in the night. meaning, it is a must to stay indoors at nighttime.
