Try to get the motherboard manufacturer and model. With that, go to the manufacturer site and search for your motherboard. They will say what memory they supports. Normally, you have a motherboard that only supports SDRAM, so you can't put DDR in it. Also, you can't mix different type of memory. If you have a board that support DDR and SDRAM, you must put DDR or SDRAM, meaning that in your case, you will have to remove all your SDRAM.
DDR is a faster memory than SDRAM. The fastest SDRAM goes to 133 MHz and the fastest DDR is up to 400 MHz. DDRII is another memory type and I think that it goes up to 800MHz.

the difference between ram
single density ram sd ram
double density ram dd ram
ddr means double of speed
if your motherboard have slots of ddr ram then you can upgrade very easily
if dont have then you cant

DDR is actually a form of SDRAM. You might want to check what your motherboard supports, see if it handles DDR ram. If you you probably already have DDR, or unless chances are high you could replace it. DDR ram isn too expensive anyways so buying 1GB or 2GB then would still be a great improvement over not too high of a price.

ok thanks, so I have to check my motherboard if it supports DDR? Forgot to mention/ask, will it increase speed in terms of accessing data or running my programs? Is it practical?

heres something, if you try to check it out, DDR has only one slot on it while SDR have 2 slots, so if your motherboard supports SDR it wouldt fit, there is also this DDR2 which is more expansive than DDR and performs well than both SDR(SDRAM) and DDR(DDRAM). DDR2 has also one slot but its not the same with DDR, so it still woudnt fit with that of DDR slot.

if your motherboard supports the ddram then you can upgrade otherwise no
double density ram means faster speed double speed.
single density ram
