If a pig could talk would you still eat bacon?

I just saw an advert for some website which had "If animals could talk, would you become a vegetarian?"If they could actually talk/communicate would that change your way of viewing them as just "animals"? Would we consider them as equal beings (for those who don't)? And would that stop you from eating them?

Mmm bacon! Seeing as I don't kill my animals I eat myself these days, I guess it wouldn't affect me, now would it? I mean, sure, I wouldn't like to work at a slaughterhouse where the animals are busily trying to talk you out of killing them!
Honestly, I'm not sure what I would do. I do really like my bacon. And a girl has to eat something, doesn't she? I mean, I already believe that animals have spirits, but I also believe that part of the natural cycle is animals eating each other (including us as animals)

Oh my Gosh, I just thought about what an ordeal it would be to even round up animals for slaughter if they could talk. I can not see talking animals being lead dumbly up a track to slaughter....ROTFLMAO If I think about this I do believe it would change our entire meat processing business.
You are so right about the food chain. Humans are animals after all, and we are omnivorous. I guess thats why its so important to give thanks for both the animal and the plant that we ingest. HMMMM
I will go to sleep hear pigs yell at me in my dreams tonight:)))

If seeing the movie Babe doesn't turn you into a vegitarian, I don't know what it would take. I won't eat a pig, anway, whether it can talk or not. It's my understanding hat they are highly intelligent, smarter than dogs. Heck probably smarter than some people I know.
You might as well ask me to eat my cat.
I'm making eggplant lasagna for dinner tonight? Would anyone like some?

No, the only thing it would change is we would probably have to gag it first so that we could eat in peace.
There would be nothing worse than trying to eat chatty bacon.

I don't know about you, but I'd be asking that pig some questions! Like, how did you start speaking? Did someone, name them please, come to you and make you talk? What did you see just before you started talking? I'd say the pig would be gagging me!

Oooh that would be horrible in one sence because I love bacon and ham and would definitely never be able to eat a pig again . I am not a big meat eater as I can't get out of my mind that this was an animal but I love the taste of pig .
It is strange when you think about this as I have never thought of it this way before but it is true that if animals could communicate with us , I am sure the majority of us would not be able to eat meat again .

I am not a vegetarian, although not a big meat eater either. Seafood is my downfall however. Ham runs a very close second to seafood, I just thought it would be interesting to see how folks feel about this :)) But along with you if that pig could carry on a conversation with me I don't think he would be on my BBQ grill for dinner!

Hi,Angel! That would definatley put me off! I am on my way to slowly getting rid of meat except for seafood(minus the fish) but if there were an animal that talked ,that's it!I'd be hurling!

I myself could live with out beef and poultry altogether. My family is a different story. I raised my family with a love for vegetables, dry beans and lentils. But they are all men, and men must have MEAT!! If steaks are grilling then you can rest assured that I have some shrimp or fish on that barbie for myself. I am very fond of bacon and pork myself, but if the pigs could talk.....

Animals most likely communicate with each other in their own language, something which is more present in certain species. So isn't it already like that? Or is it just because you don't understand them? But in that reasoning many people understand Chinese just as well as chimp language, so for people who eat chimp going out for Chinese could get an entirely different meaning :P.

If animals could talk then they would no longer be animals, they would be humans and I am not a cannibal so I would not eat them.

No, definitely not! After the movie "Babe" came out I stopped eating pig products altogether! Then I became a vegetarian as I thought it was a bit odd not to eat just pork - so I cut out all meats.
I love animals and do consider them as equals, just seeing all the poor sheep for example being transported to faraway countries on large ships makes me mad and sad. Many of the poor things die and are just left there or chucked over the side without respect. It's too sad. lol

Babe was such a sweet movie. I am not sure I consider animals equal, but I do certainly believe they are worthy of life. But humans have need of animals, as in food and clothing, and as the poster behind you said how useful they are in medical practices, because of this they deserve, respect and care. I have a friend in the meat packing/slaughter industry, and he has told me horror stories about some feed lots. Makes the ends of your hair bristle and your toes curl up.

Well first thing is "If a horse make friends with the grass then what will he eat??"
Thats truth talking practically they are our food ..!!
But if they started to talk and communicate like us then it would be a little hard to kill them but still they are our food..!!!
But on contrary once I made friends with a chicken for about 2 days she was just like spending all her day on my arms resting on them ...I felt a little warmth from her and Its like I started understanding her feelings and fright. But on third day she was about to die and get cooked for us..!!Which made feel terribly BAD..!!At last we left her free!!
Humanity..!!But still I love eating chickens..!! lol

I'm vegetarian, as you can see it isn't necessary animals can talk to stop eating meat. I decided to become vegetarian when I was a child and saw a farmer quartering a rabbit. I had to wait to be of age to become vegetarian, but now I am and I'm happy.
I think that if pigs could speak, they'd say a lot of insults to the human beings for the fact that human beings hold them in contempt: pigs are the dirtiest animals, are impure animals and nonsenses like these.
In the ancient times sow was considered as a sacred animal, a symbol of Mother Goddess, now she is insulted, quartered in pieces, a reservoir from whom to take organs for the human beings who are ill and need to change their ones.

I am thankful that animals and science can contribute in this way.

Oh, yes.... some human beings as you are thankful, but.... what about pigs? What could they say if they could speak? If they can contribute making animals suffer and cry I don't care their contribution. At all.

Woow, what a great question Angelwhispers! Well, I must admit, I would consider to be a vegetarian if animals could talk. I mean, it would be a shame to eat someone who can converse with you. Seems not right too. The worst thing that could happen, is that vegetables could talk too. That would be a great dilemma for me. (^^,)
