We have both, a cellphone and a house phone. Since we had the home phone before cellphones came out we decided to keep it. We took off the long distance service on the house phone. We only use the home phone for local calls and if we need to make a long distance call we use our cell.
Long distance calls are included in our cellphone service, but if we were to use the home phone it would cost extra and plus we would have to have a long distance carrier.

I think that everyone should have a home phone no matter what... because you can miss-place your cell phone and in the event of a tragic incident you will be left without a source of communication.. yet I find I use my cell phone more than I use my house phone because I am on the go alot but its still a security blanket

I have both, i have a home phone with unlimited long distance, because all my family and my hubby's family lives on the east coast, so we do a lot of long distance calling, and that would be NASTY expensive on a cel phone. I have a prepaid cell, cause i use it MOSTLY for texting peoples. And he has a plan with unlimited text, long distance on weekends, web browser, tv, oi, he has everything i have at home, on his cell, but its too expensive for me! i think he should switch to pay as you go cause he uses it mostly to text too, but he doesnt' want to.. *shrug*

I think the traditional home phone is still a necessary thing these days. Some people here still don't carry cellphones with them all the time. Some, even if they have cellphones, tend to forget to bring them along every once in a while. In our house, we have cellphones and a telephone too. Since most of the cellphones are prepaid, we usually use them for txt messages. When a long conversation is necessary, we opt to use the home phone. For us, the cellphone is very important the minute we step out of the house, as it is where anybody can call us wherever we decide to go. But as soon as we get home, we only use the cellphone to txt short, important messages that need to reach the receiver immediately.
