I know in the 'modern times' of America, people think that Indians are over reacting to the 'kiss'. But even in the middle of last century a kiss was a big thing, and only done between those who had strong feelings and maybe even a relationship with the other person. By relationship I mean actual family not the modern version of significant other.
So what do you think of 'THE KISS'???

It isn't the middle of last century though... Is India in the middle of last century? Maybe so...
I think it was harmless and I think its ridiculous that people in the world still react this way. Maybe Gere should have been more sensitive, but if he didn't know, he shouldnt be in trouble for it (not that anyone should be, really)

MrNiceGuy from thr perspective of the young people here in the states it may seem middles ages but this is a different culture and a different country so we must respect them and their ways. surly you have herad the saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do" Haven't you?

Since the people of India find the kissing of Shilpa Shetty by Richard Gere in public offensive then it is offensive. When one goes to another country one has to take into consideration that country’s culture. As I understand it Richard has been to India many times and he should have known that his grabbing Shilpa and giving her this type of kiss would be offensive. He should have been more sensitive to that Indian culture. This is just one of the thing that give Americans a bad name We are so used to seeing it that we do n't think any thing about it but at one time it was against the law in our own country.

I agree he should have known of the morals and ways of India, especially if he is dealing with a co-star from India. I agree this gives the US a bad image, not only the way that he kissed her but the way people from the US are asking what was wrong with it.

I live in the US so I look at things one way, I know that it has become a bigger deal in India, and would like to know of how others outside of the US would look at it. Even those from countries other then US or India.
