aids is good or bad for civilization

I think it's a terrible thing for civilization...diseases like aids or cancer that have no cure make me panic, i can't imagine it being good in any way, except...you may say that it contributes to population control, if people were more responsible aids wouldn't be as widespread, i believe people should value and protect their life more, it is something very frail and shouldn't be risked just like that...still it's terrible knowing you're going to die and can't do anything about it, it's a bad way to go.
