As Barry Bonds approaches Hank Aaron's MLB record for most home runs in a career, I really have to wonder if a lot of these esteemed records should really go to some of these current baseball players. I'm not a Bond's fan, but I don't dislike him as a player either; however, he has too many scandals directly affecting his baseball performance...amphetamine use, steroid allegations, etc that the MLB refuses to actively confront. Whats funny is Mr Aaron doesn't want anything to do with baseball anymore.
The same goes with Cal Ripkin. I've met the man and think he's a very respectable person and a great player; however, he was involved with two MLB strikes (1981 and 1994) where he did not play regularly scheduled games (he still got credit for beating Lou Gehrig the former record holder). Yes I know it was a union walkout, but still, how could you say you have the most consecutive games when you didn't play parts of a season? In my humble opinion, baseball needs to get back to the basics--no drugs, no play, and to bring back the fans-many of whom still haven't come back after the strike ordeals, then lower prices of the cheap seat tickets. Maybe then, the game will resume its former accolades and gain more attendance....
What say you?
