Some of you may be tired of my swimming discussions, so ignore this if you are. We are very excited, as we found out last night that my daughter has a very good chance of getting in the State Championships, held in January. This is a premier swimming event, & we have teams from all other Australian States, Japan & other nearby countries attend. Only swimmers who meet the absolute minimum standard are allowed to participate. My daughter has made the minimum standard in 50M freestyle a few times in the past few months, but she has to do this in an official meet. She has an official meet coming up in about 5 weeks, & if she achieves this minimum time & quite possibly get better, then she is in the State Chamopionships. Not only frrestyle, where she should qualify, but also butterfly & backstroke, where her times are close. This gives my daughter something to aim for with the intense training over the next few months.

I know how you must feel as my granddaughter used to be in the Stirling team, we used to go and watch her train and I have her on tape , she loved it and she was told she could go places but she has eczema and the chlorine was making it worse , she was in tears when she had to give it up , she had lots of creams and things but it just got too painful for her well done your daughter you must be very proud of her and rightly so xx

Chlorine is a real problem. MY daughter doesn't have eczema (although did when she was very young), but still has problems with the chlrine. Some pools are worse than others. Once a year our team (Fleurio), go to Mildura for a training camp. Lots of swimmers had reactions to the chlorine. It got really bad for my daughter. This year when we go to Mildura, I am buying allergy tablets for her, plus now I think one can but some soap & cream to treat chlorine.

I'm wishing your daughter the best of luck in her future swim meets. I've always loved to swim but have never been a strong enough one to compete - I greatly admire those who can though.

She has just turned 14 years. Her time for 50 metre feestyle is 34.1 seconds. You have to reach a qualifying time of 34.5 secs to enter the state championships. She is 2 secs below in butterfly, but we are reasonably confident she can make the gap in the nextr few months.

Quite normal times. She just has to keep it up and train hard! She should try skipping breaths in butterfly (1 stroke breath, 1 without breathing (head in the water)), it gives a quite nice effect in time! ;)

Certainly a great challenge for your daughter, jenny. I´ve always found the "butterfly" style extremely difficult and still haven´t mastered it. I wish your daughter the best of luck. From what I´ve read here she must be a very determined young girl. :-)

Wowwww, your daughter must be something. It sure does need a lot of hard work and perseverance to qualify for that position. I had enrolled my girls in swimming school last summer and both of them was having a blast. They may not be a good swimmers like your daughter, but I'm happy to see them floating on their own, LOL! Congratulations and I'm sure you must be so proud of your daughter.
