At the first sign of a cold or flu, I will immediately chew on a clove of raw garlic. The taste and fumes seem to burn for a while around my mouth and throat area, but then it eases and I have even known for it the cold to disappear immediately, but not ever time.
Do you have a remedy you use that you've found effective.

ewww, gross.
but actually - i have done that before.
It didn't work.
You might want to try chopping up the garlic and then coating it in sugar - helps ingesting it a little.
Nowadays i have managed to successfully prevent colds and flus - haven't got one in 2 years.
I take one fish oil tablet each morning. It seems to have helped since i rarely exercise anymore.
I also stay warm by wearing lots of overalls.

LOL... Yes, it is gross isn't it. But with garlic you must stay away from others.. I don't know whether I would like the mixture of garlic and sugar though..
I rarely get colds, but have had one this year - the first for about 5 years. I think the fact that I refuse to have one may help LOL..

trust me, the mixture of chopped up garlic and sugar is actually not that bad as you would think - because i had my doubts at first as well. It'll help you get the garlic into your mouth. but the stinging part is when it goes down your throat.

Sport is the best remedy which work for me.At least i saw for sure from when i start to make gym i am not so sensitive like in past...
I think from 2 years from i start to make gym i catch a flu just 1 times...which is pretty good for someone which was sensitive like me...
But let me tell you something in my country is a saying:a flu is fixed with medicine in 7 days and without medicine in a week....lol...so until all those germs don't make their ugly job...nothing will help you really!

Thank you for that! yes, it's really up to those ugly germs when they are going to leave your body. But... I don't think they like the smell of garlic very much.
Yes, I go to the gym too and found that being fitter definitely helps keep those germs away. :-)

take a lot of water. if you can have at least 3 liters of daily consumption, that will be sufficient. take plenty of fruit juices and fruits. watermelons will greatly relieve you of the illness.
get to a spa or a massage parlor. at times, these cold and cough lasts because there is something within us that can be best treated with a good massage. then in hte evenings before getting to bed, apply a generous amount of cold rubs at the neck, chest and back massaging for as well as you can.
another good thing to have at night is a glassful of warm ginger concoction. crush some ginger and boil it in something like 2 glasses of water. you may add some sugar and lemon juice for a better taste and health effect of the concoction. place the remaining concoction in the refrigerator if you cannot consume them all. take it first thing in the morning after having had the early morning glassful of drinking water.
i hope that you will soon be cured and be rid of your problem.

Yes, derek speaking of colds and flu...I have been suffering still these days even until now because I dont really know exactly what to take since I haven't get to have a complete check up from a doctor, but for the meantime I'm only taking some meds for my colds and flu and during day time I feel okay in my body, but when night time comes that's when I feel terrible again and it's been almost a week now since I have this sickness. But, I do hope soon I'll be feeling well.

I have to agree with the first response, I go to the gym five times a week and I can't remember the last time I got flu or even a cold. Sweating on the treadmill or through a rigorous exercise programme will help to sweat out the impurities, germs and bugs, it refreshes and cleanses the body, especially a sauna which does the same. Previously before the gym I suffered a lot of colds and if someone sneezed near me that's it, down with the cold, I used to drink hot toddies, like whisky coffee to stave or help keep them at bay.

Thanks for posting. Yes, I think you are definitely right there. There is a correlation between keeping yourself fit and catching a cold. I do vigorous exercise in the gym 3 times a week now and it is definitely making a difference.
Used to go to a sauna, but the one near us closed down and it would mean a long drive. But in the gym sweating seems to work, but I need to remember always to wipe the machines down with paper towels that are available there and not my hand towel I take with me - that's for my face and body. Something I hadn't realised before I was told.

My grandmother grows peppermint tea in her garden and whether I have a cold, or a stomach ache a cup of that will help. I've also found that peppermint tea is a great stress reliever. Someone also told me to eat a banana for a stomach ache.

I gargle to moisten a sore throat and bring temporary relief. Try a teaspoon of salt dissolved in warm water, four times daily. To reduce the tickle in your throat, try an astringent gargle -- such as tea that contains tannin -- to tighten the membranes.
Drinking hot liquids also help to relieve nasal congestion, prevent dehydration, and soothe the uncomfortably inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat.

Thank you for posting. Yes, salt has long been associated with easing inflammation and speeding up the healing process. I remember my mother giving me warm salt water when I was very young and had a sore throat. Also I remember swimming in the sea when I had infected cuts on my legs and them healing very much quicker. I don't know whether the sea is clean enough today though.. :-)

Hi and thanks for posting :-) Hope you cold gets better soon. I like chicken soup, but I didn't think it was a cold remedy. Lots of sleep I can see how that can work well, then you are not aware you have a cold.. Unless you wake yourself up coughing.. :-)
