I like reading too much. =p

I've heard so many people talk about making 100 posts a day here. So yesterday afternoon I thought I'd keep up with how many posts I made, to see if I could make 100. Apparently, I actually made about 50 posts, even though I was on for hours.
Why? Because I love to read. I often read something that is really interesting, and then don't have anything to say to it, even though I just read the whole discussion! I enjoy reading what other people have written a lot more than I enjoy actually posting sometimes, especially if I'm just not in a talky mood.
Does anyone else do a lot of browsing and reading between posts? Am I the only one who sees people who joined just weeks ago having more posts than me, even though I've been here since January?

Man, Lecanis I am with you there, in fact most of my time is spent reading, even if I do not respond to what I am reading. I gain entertainment from just doing that. I am either laughing or appalled at the stupidity of some of the posts. The second thing that takes up my time is that when I do post to a friends discussion I get caught up in just that discussion and keep going back to see how other people are responding, or how that particular friend is responding. The most I have ever done in one day is about 30, but that day I was just trying to get in as many posts as possible and I did not enjoy it as much as I do when I just do what I "do"

Exactly! That day I worked hard just trying to make posts I didn't really earn anymore, maybe a few cents... So for me I will take my pleasure over the pain :))) Pain in the a$$ that is :))

*giggles* Yup, the stupidity of some of the posts gets me too. I've woken my husband up laughing too hard at mylot before. =p
I do that too, with getting caught up in one discussion. I use "discussions I've replied to" far too much as well, I'll go back after just about every post I make to see if anyone replied to anything I said. Partially because the original poster might have, and partially because my friends sometimes drop by threads I have been on and say interesting things.
I don't think I enjoyed being on mylot as much as usually yesterday, trying to make a specific number of posts. I don't think that whole thing is for me either! And I didn't really make more money than I usually do when I'm enjoying myself more but making fewer posts!

I spent nearly all day and night here yesterday and I did not make that many posts, as I am like you. I will often read what others have said and if I have nothing to add I will just rate the good responses and move on.
I tend to stick to my friends discussions and once in a while move out into the big wide world of other discussions. It can take a while to find interesting ones as alot of them are usually about making money.
I only noticed today that the Ebay adverts have been removed between responses. Shows how much they affected me, but I must admit it is good to see they have gone. I wonder if too many people complained or if Ebay were not getting any responses.

this is also my problem here... most of the time i get so consumed with reading that i don't know what to say anymore. they have already said a lot that i don't have anything to say anymore.
like, i have been here in mylot for like 5 months now but as you can see from the number of my posts, im still in my 500 and up posts. I am really slow with my writing because i enjoy reading...

In my opinion, it all depends on the hours put in and how people do their posting. Just do a rough calculation, how much time do you need to post a response? You only need to know how long you take to post one response and then multiply by 100.
If I need the quantity, I do not always read between posts. I respond thru email notifications and unless the topic is really interesting then I browse thru after I have posted. However, for discussions with lots of pages, I give it a miss. It's simply too slow to browse thru all.

I think it's just how I think of things. I treat this like a forum, not like a job. So I try to actually read and respond just the same as I would on any other forum that I was doing for fun. This kind of clinical approach just wouldn't work for me.
If I figure it only usually takes two or three minutes to write a response, then I should be able to pound out 100 responses in less than five hours. But I was on more than that yesterday, and made less than 50 responses, because I read a lot of things that I don't even respond to.
I suppose I could try looking at it your way, but I don't think that would be any fun, therefore I don't think I would stick with it long.

There are many reasons for me to believe that i will never be able to make 100 posts a day:-)
Firstly, when i want to respond to a post, I always like to know what actually poster is demanding and what will be meaningful to him/her; otherwise it will be a waste of time, if i am not helpful. I mean if he/she is asking some clarification, I would like to know whether scientific explanation will work or i need to go about psychological, philosophical, sociological or theological side of the issue. For that I not only read the post carefully but also the replies to which poster has responded clearing his point and required information. Often that takes a long time to dig that intent/information specially when there is something i am not clear about and i need to go to references to understand.
Secondly, I spend a considerable time in checking back often my "discussions i've responded to" section, to see whether somebody has commented on my reply and has asked for some more information or clarification or if i myself need to clarify, if there is some probable misunderstanding.
Thirdly, I would read on and on about people's experiences and thoughts expressed in a post to fill in my empty spaces, after i have replied to the post or even if i haven't or i would never reply to that post because of my lack of knowledge.
Lastly, I spend considerable time in writing a reply and rereading it, as my writing skills are not good. I just want to make it sure that I am understandable and communicating well, of which i am never satisfied, though.
So all this adds up to reduce my posting and for that reason i am not able to make more than 376 post (at the time i am writing this message) in about 7 weeks time even though i spend a considerable time on Mylot. Even today, it's about three hours now that i am on Mylot and this is my third post:-) Happy posting and best of luck:-)

You know, come to think of it, I have spent time asking people to clarify, and researching my answer as well. Once in a while I'll stumble across a question about something I've never even thought about, and do a lot of research to provide a meaningful answer, because it is a learning experience for me.
I remember you from another discussion recently, and I think I really like your style. You might spend a lot of time writing your posts because you worry about your writing skills, but the end result is really impressive. I just thought I would let you know that.
I have also read discussions that I would never reply to becuase of my lack of knowledge, in order to learn from people that do have knowledge in that area. Often a discussion on mylot will lead to me researching subjects further, via books and internet resources.

Thanks lecanis, for your appreciation of my writing! It really helps:-). I think I'll never be satisfied about my writing owing to my, a bit perfectionist approach, though; which sometimes is really painful.
Your efforts to be meaningful while replying and acquiring knowledge from other discussions as well as research is commendable and respectable.

I do my little quota thingie and by then I am usually burnt out. However, when I come back later to upload my photos, I do a lot of reading, then. It's quite enjoyable.
I wonder if they added the comments how many you would have, because I'd bet you do a lot more of those than replies?

Do you upload photos every day? I haven't really uploaded many at all, but I suppose it would be a good way to make money! Where do you get the photos you upload? Are they things you take yourself, or just things you find onlne? Am I asking too many questions? =p
You know, when you think about it, we all probably make a lot of comments. I know I make a ton, both on my own discussions and on other people's discussions! I wish there was some way to track those!

I take the photos, or I send the kids out to take photos, sometimes they will get something nice with my camera. I have many year of backlog stored digitally, so I am able to upload from that bank.
I wish there was some way to keep track of comments, becaue it seems like they go unnoticed by the 'system'. I guess it is just our peers that keep track!

I do tend to read different blogs via mylot, most of wich I do not comment on for whatever reason. Latly My goal has been to post above 75 times in a day, and I have met said goal a few times.

I like to read also. It would take me at least 7 or 8 hours to do 100 decent posts. I probably wouldn't get much past 60 or 70 in that time, with all the mistakes I make. I sometimes wander off into other discussions, but uausally I am doing other things on the computer and am on this site kind of passing by.

It took me several hours to even get 50, and it wasn't much fun trying! =p
I usually do other things while I'm on mylot, but not so much computer things. I'll be online for a few minutes, and then go play with my son, or I'll be watching tv and doing mylot, or doing things around the house.

When I was just starting, I was like pretty hooked on mylot. I never counted the number of posts I made. I just kept on pounding my keyboard and read some of the discussions. I will start with my friend's thread, top or hot topics and new user discussions.
But lately, Its kind of making me feel a little burned out. For the last few days, I can only post a few threads of my own and responded to a select few of my friend's discussions. This is actually my first in a month that I visited and respond to threads that are not among my list of friends.

I'm sorry to hear that you've burned out on it like that! I hope it becomes fun for you again!
I have been burned out on it a couple of times when I had spent too much time here or thought about it too much, but since I have a built in break every week (the days my husband is off and we spend time together) I always come back recharged and refreshed. Maybe if you just came on a few days a week instead of trying to do it every day you would feel better? That might not work for everyone, but it works for me!

I'm like you. I think this site is as much about reading as well as posting. I enjoy what people have to say and yes, I do sometimes read without posting. I always try to rate, however.

I read too much to... and I never have much to say... but obviously you do have something to say after all you are at over 2000 posts... me in two days I've made 7 cents because I haven't found any posts I really know much about

I was thinking in relative terms here. There are people on here who have more posts than me that joined just last month, while I joined in January. Obviously now I am learning that there are people who joined the same times as me who have the same or less posts than me, so it's not me but the people with a lot who are different. =p

I read most of the discussions I've replied to, including the replies of other myLoters in the discussion. I've always wanted my answer to contain a new morsel of thought rather than repeat what others have said. Because of this it usually takes me a while before I make a post. There's a lot of things you can learn just by reading what people has to say.

Thanks for your response! I have talked to a lot of people who are using mylot for that purpose, to practice and improve their English skills. Though I am a native English speaker, I do find that talking online helps me keep my writing skills sharp when I might otherwise not be using them. Good luck to you!

i don't think you are the only one who has this habbit..you are talking about people joining a week before and posting more than you..but just look at me..i have been a member since last november..but that hardly matters..i like browsing through the discussions a lot..and only if i have something reasonable to say i would go ahead and post..i think that also helps to learn a bit more..

LOL - most of the time I love reading the discussions here. The other day was a bit of a fluke really, I managed to post 100 responses, but I was on here virtually all day from 9am to about 6pm, and I was in a chatty mood too. I do browse through a lot of discussions, mainly my friends discussions first, then go on to my interests.

I'm another person who is much like you too, only much more so! I have been around since February too, and I haven't even got to my 500! Actually, my first 100 came up in double quick time, in just about a couple of days, but since then, I have slowed down quite a lot. I enjoy reading through discussions and pick the few that appeal to me and write a reply, after giving due thought to it. Though I read about people who say that they respond to 50 to hundred discussions every single day, and that too, most of them within a span of two hours or so, I don't even think I would want to try and compete with that! My mylot experience is more about enjoyment and less about meeting deadlines! Hell, that would take all the fun out of it for me, if I began to see it that way! The days I feel more chatty, I answer more discussions, but on other occasions, I just read a bit and mark good discussions to answer on another day.

Why won't you respond if you like reading it? There are occasions, though quite rare, when I read discussions without responding. But if I enjoy reading them, I would quite likely respond to them. :P

Lecanis I do love reading but you know what I do I read up on what people have to say on religon and politics.... since I do not reply to topics on religon or politics it is nice to read about others opinions! I also watch out for those really heated debates specially the ones that get flamed, I have also found out to my horror that the ones that get flamed are usually the ones on either extremes! They are either extremely correct or extremely incorrect in their views, but yeah it is fun to read about what others are thinking about and writing in about their thoughts! thanks for the post dear. :)
