How old were you when you started smoking? I was in college when I started. Today, after 6 years, I wanted to quit. But I don't know how and when to start. It's hard. =(

I was in high school when I first tried and then get hooked on the habit of smoking. I have smoked for almost 10 years, I just stopped when I had feel something about my chest. It is really hard to stop but if you really set it on your mind not to smoke, I think you will prevail (mind over body). They say quitting cannot be done in just one sitting, it is done gradually, step by step. Maybe you should try to limit your smoking in a target number of sticks, then lowered this number until you feel like you don't need to smoke anymore or until the desire pass away.

You are so right. It's so very hard to quit smoking. I've tried many of the different products out there with no success. I think it's got mostly to deal with willpower. It takes a very strong person to quit smoking. It's such an addictive product.
I had my first smoke at 9. My friend and I thought we'd try being "cool" and "borrowing" a smoke out of my dad's pack we snuck out into the bushes to try it out.
I started smoking full time at about 16 years old. This year I'll be 35 so that's many many years of at least a pack a day.
One of these day I am planning to quit but when and how I just am not sure of yet.

I started smoking when I was 12, I quit a few times here and there and always started back up. My last smoke was at the age 24 which was over two years ago.
Have you tried quit helplines? I know where I live there are free help lines that will even send you free niotine patches if you need them. Quitting is so hard, and it is different for everyone. I wish you the best of luck and congrats on wanting to quit. That is the first step!

I first smoked when I was 14, and went on and off. I didn't start smoking on a regular basis until I was 16; I'm 17 now, but I don't find myself to be addicted to it.
If you want to quit, I'd recommend gradually cutting back. I think your city or state probably also have free quit smoking programs; I always see adds for those on the subway. You may also want to try taking Saint John's Wort, an herbel supplement that increases your dopamine, serotonin, and those other 'pleasant feeling' neurotransmitters that smoking also triggers (hence the relaxed feeling).

Yep~ It's a capsule, with the herb crushed up inside. I'm taking a daily dose of 700mg, but you could take up to 1000mg per day, I think. It has an interesting scent 8D You may find it in 'sleep aid' section of the pharmacy; it increases your energy, but also enables you to sleep better (not necessarily longer, just better quality, so I've read).
