Blind belief on the divine or confidence in our efforts

I came across a couple who were having a blind faith in God.A year ago the man lost his job.At that time they came across a baba who said that the period is too bad for him and that he should not venture anything new nor even apply for any job.They both are still waiting for the signal from the divine to proceed in the job front.I feel in this very competitive world where every minute jobs are getting filled we should follow the divine call but keep trying where we will not be at a loss trying and anything good comes it is good time and proceed with asking the divine for his grace and work hard.I always believe hard work pays.Do you think that waiting for the divine is really going to do good in their life or hard work with faith in the divine will uplift their life.Hope to have a healthy discussion on this issue.
