Well my son had a loose tooth for nearly 3 weeks (this is his first) , my husband at lunch noticed our son was crying, when he asked what was wrong, my son said it hurt to eat, my husband felt the tooth, and it was just barely hanging there.
So I went for the string to pull it out, my son reaches in his mouth and pulled it out, by himself with his own fingers...Yikes!!
So now the tooth fairy will be coming for a visit. . .How much does she leave for teeth at your house?

When I lost a tooth, the going rate was a quarter. When my kids lost their teeth (around twelve years ago), the going rate was one dollar. Right about now it's probably a little higher, but I think anything around a dollar is probably a good deal.

I used to get a quarter too! My daughter and son both got a buck. My son says, "You can't buy anything anymore with a dollar."
I said, "Okay, give it back then."
He said, "Nah, a dollar is good."
Now, he's almost 13 - guess my tooth fairy days are over.

We usually do a dollar or two. We do get the gold dollars though. My daughter really seems to like those. I also made her a special tooth fairy pillow. You hang it by your bed and the tooth fairy takes the tooth out of the special pocket and leaves the coins in there. We used to have a girly one, but my tomboy now has a blue camo one. Good thing they are easy to make. :D

My daughter is getting to be that age so I was curious about this topic. I'm glad I checked it out because I really like your idea of the gold dollars. I suppose I should make a pillow soon. I have some leftover flannel fabric -pink camo- that would make a cute one.

What a great question! I always gave my son a dollar. He's 12 now, and they say he won't be losing anymore teeth, so thankfully, this tooth fairy doesn't have to worry about inflation! It'll be neat to see what others are paying though. I have a friend who does $5 per tooth! wow! I think I got like a quarter when I was a kid....LOL

1 good old fashioned pound sterling! children do not need to have an abundance of money for losing their teeth, it just encourages them to smash out more teeth in a vain attempt to aqquire more of the shiney golden coins.
Money grabbing rats .

I hated having loose teeth when I was a kid and the teeth were only worth a nickel (IF my parents knew the tooth came out). Now some kids get $10.00 or $20.00 a tooth or MORE?! WOW. That would make me want to pull out all my teeth.

I was a little worried about giving an amount that differed from the amounts my daughter's friends were getting, so I started by putting a small, inexpensive gift under the pillow (dollar store type things). One time I was caught by surprise and the stores weren't open, so I put a $2 coin (approx. $1.80 US.).
I know her friends are getting larger amounts, but she always seems happy and hasn't questioned it. I suspect she knows the tooth fairy isn't real, but isn't letting us know, because she'd like the gifts to continue.

My son had to get a tooth pulled at the hospital when he was 4 so the tooth fairy gave him $5, I think that my daughter also got the same for her first one too. Now they get $2 each and they are quite hapy with that. My daughter's orthodontist wants her to have a tooth pulled at the dentist and she is'nt looking forward to it, so I think that the tooth fairy may be a little more generous this time considering the circumstances.

my kids get 4 bucks. they get a number like that because when they get money for ANY reason half goes into savings and half they get to spend. I like doing that because it teachs them to save money at a young age. they hate it now but they will be glad when they are older and get to buy a car or what ever they want.

when i was young the tooth fairy use to leave me anything from 50 c to $2 but usually it was $1, when i was loosing my first few teeth i think it was more 50 c, as my idea of money i thought i was rich even if i had only 50 c lol. but yeah then later on when about 7 or 8 and realising the differences then it went up a bit.

losing the first tooth is a big deal some people will put out quite a bit for a first tooth because it's exciting, but then you run into the problem when the next tooth the child gets a little less and wonders why the tooth fairy didn't leave as much. so i wouldn't give too big of an amount. the best thing is to give what you will be able to give for the rest. my daughter hasn't lost any yet and won't for a while still but i'm thinking a dollar is good for a child at that age, mayby 1.50 at the most that way if they want to go to the dollar store to go shopping they will have enough with the tax. good luck.

I was just reading some of the comments and me and my husband have been giving our daughter 20 dollars for each tooth. She usually uses it to go shopping for clothes and shoes with what can I say she is a shopper.

A few years back my daughter was visiting her dad, one of the few times she has and well she lost her tooth when she was there and got $5, so now I have to keep with that although I do believe that is a bit much. I certainly didn't get that..lol

We give two dollars, but once when my daughter had to have four teeth pulled by the dentist we gave $12 total because it was such a traumatic experience. Then her grandparents sent her $20 because they though the tooth fairy wasn't generous enough given the circumstances. :)

The tooth fairy usually leaves a dollar for my children's teeth. I know it isn't much but it's more than the quarter she gave me for mine.. LOL..
I have a friend who leaves $5 for each of her kids teeth but that'd get expensive for me. My darling son was born with 2 sets of baby teeth.

Our tooth fairy leave one dollar, but my son has a friend whose tooth fairy left him a $10. I told his mom out of the boys' hearing that her tooth fairy was far too rich, lol.
