This was e-mailed to me a long, long time ago, and I thought it was so precious..it's an anonymous piece
I AM YOUR CAT
I am your cat, and I have a little something I'd like to whisper in your ear.
I know that you humans lead busy lives. Some have to work, some have children to raise. It always seems like you are running here and there, often much too fast, often never noticing the truly grand things in life.
Look down at me now, while you sit there at your computer. See the way my eyes look at yours? They are slightly cloudy now. That comes with age. The gray hairs are beginning to ring my soft muzzle.
You smile at me; I see love in your eyes. What do you see in mine? Do you see a spirit? A soul inside, who loves you as no other could in the world? A spirit that would forgive all trespasses of prior wrong doing for just a simple moment of your time? That is all I ask. To slow down, if even for a few minutes to be with me. So many times you have been saddened by the words you read on that screen, of others of my kind, passing.
Sometimes we die young and oh so quickly, sometimes so suddenly it wrenches your heart out of your throat.
Sometimes, we age so slowly before your eyes that you may not even seem to know until the very end, when we look at you with grizzled muzzles and cataract clouded eyes.
Still the love is always there, even when we must take that long sleep, to run free in a distant land.
I may not be here tomorrow; I may not be here next week. Someday you will shed the water from your eyes, that humans have when deep grief fills their souls, and you will be angry at yourself that you did not have just "One more day" with me.
Because I love you so, your sorrow touches my spirit and grieves me. We have NOW, together. So come, sit down here next to me, and look deep into my eyes. What do you see? If you look hard and deep enough we will talk, you and I, heart to heart.
Come to me not as "alpha" or as "owner" or even "Mom or Dad," come to me as a living soul and stroke my fur and let us look deep into one anther's eyes, and talk. I may tell you something about the fun of batting toys, or I may tell you something profound about myself, or even life in general.
You decided to have me in your life because you wanted a soul to share such things with. Someone very different from you, and here I am.
I am a cat, but I am alive. I feel emotion, I feel physical senses, and I can revel in the differences of our spirits and souls. I do not think of you as a "Cat on two feet" -- I know what you are. You are human, in all your quirkiness, and I love you still.
Now, come sit with me. Enter my world, and let time slow down if only for 15 minutes. Look deep into my eyes, and whisper into my ears. Speak with your heart, with your joy and I will know your true self. We may not have tomorrow, and life is oh so very short....

Oh pyewacket - thanks once again for printing such a beautiful piece, and for the link to the website. No need to tell you how much I am a "cat" person - I adore them. My cats are not just my pets - they are my friends. They give me more love, loyalty, trust, and respect than any human being ever could. They make me laugh, they make me cry, they bring me great joy. My Sasha (in my avatar) is getting old now - I know my time remaining with him is limited - I read your piece, and then I looked at him curled up asleep on the bed, and I went back to cuddle him one more time. Thanks again.

Awww - she is beautiful too. Actually 3 of my 5 cats are gingers, as we call them here. I think they have some of the strongest and most interesting personalities in the entire cat world. I was interested to read that Taffy was female, as female gingers are really rare here in the UK, and very highly prized for breeding for that reason. Did you ever breed with Taffy?

THat's so nice. Very touching. Its a good masterpiece..simple but very expressive. I love my cat so much (also my late dog rusty) and I know that they are smart enough to figure out and feel the emotions of being an animal.
My late dog, rusty, is like that. Everytime I cry for some problems, she would open my door and put her head on my lap. She would look at me and stare with her expressive eyes and i know that she feels what I'm feeling. I love animals!

You know you could have put a warning first that I needed a box of kleenex handy. That just wasn't fair. Of course my cats are looking at me like I'm nuts right now, but they do that a lot anyways. Don't worry I'll reassure them that I 'm all right and give them lots of lovings. I could not picture my life without them even if now and then they drive me crazy. The thing is though if I didn't love them so much they wouldn't drive me so crazy.

Yeah mine like to look at me that way as well. Of course right now most of them are sleeping. It's nice when they are quite.

That is a keeper. I loved it. Thanks for posting it and making me go and get my box of kleenx..I feel the same way about my dog also. Both my cat and dog are so special to me. I always have said that my pets can feel my mood. My dog has a special dog bed next to mine, and my cat has a special pillow on my bed. I will be lost when something happens to them.

My two cats have dominion over my bed too...I can hardly move when I'm in bed..but I'm not complaining..I would miss their presence with me if I didn't have them, since now they are the only "family" I have

That's a beautiful piece - I've always had cats and now live in a very rural area where we get adopted by feral cats. The males wander after a while, but the females stay more. It's much more transient than when I had cats in England and I try to cherish my time with them because I never know if they will be around for long.
I'm sure many cat owners will stop and ponder over this one and maybe it's a good thing to stop us rushing around so much.

This was great. Actually, my cat Humphrey has this figured out. He always knows about when I'm going to use the computer and at exactly the right moment, he jumps up and takes my chair before I sit down. I wind up putting him on my lap and there he sits (all 18 pounds of him) while I'm on the computer. He usually will stay on my lap until the other cat (Pish) comes to the door and signals for him to come play.

Wow this is a great piece. It reminds me of my dog that had passed away back last fall. she was 16 years old but she was always still like a puppy always happy to see me, and always full of love and life. I sure do miss her.

That is precious although it is a little bit of a tear jerker at the same time. We have a cat named Wilbur and he is precious to us.

Lovely story, my cat has been my companion for 14 years now she has her own personality but but we share a lot. She has her own pillows on my bed, and she has her own towel to lay on in front of my computer. She is my main comfort and jot since there is no one else here. She is starting to show signs of age, but still she will hunt for mice and other fun stuff as she has always done. Life would not be the same without her.
