I want to learn how to play the piano. I have a background of playing piano when I was 5 and I used to play by ear, but I haven't mastered the piano. In fact, I'm still on beginner level. I also have a background in playing music in the school band as a Trumpet player from 4th to 8th grade. I was a really good trumpet player, no joke. I am now 17 years in 11th and I would like to take on the hobby as a piano player. Is it too late?

It's never too late for learning anything!
Go for it, you will enjoy it very much, and i'm really sure about it :)
Just take it easy and study well, you'll be a great player, and maybe, some day i can watch you playing on Broadway, han? :)

LOL Thanks for your support! Who knows? Maybe I could end up on Broadway! I'm not saying that it's likely, but the speed at which I'm picking things amazes me! It seems like it's a second nature. I just started to play the piano keyboard again and let me tell you that I'm hooked! Ever since I've been learning music theory and watching piano courses with videos over the internet, I'd be playing the piano for hours. I really do enjoy!

Wow! The speed at which I typed left my comment with grammar mistakes.
The sentence where it says "It's amazing how I'm picking things", meant to say that I'm picking up playing the piano fast!!
The last sentence was meant to say "I'm enjoying playing the piano".

if you want to learn simply for the fun of it, i don't think it's too late to have piano lessons now. but competitively, i believe you should have had continuous training since childhood.

No, of course it's not too late.
You can learn piano now and play well in only a few months. It's really not as hard as some might want you to think!
It's certainly easier than trumpet!
I'm a fiddle player who taught herself guitar, and while in college (for guitar) I was required to take one more instrument. So I took piano classes!
I never did anything easier before in my life.
You start slow, but boy - in a few weeks, you're coasting!
Go for it!

It's never too late to learn anything whether your are seventeen or seventy. Thankfully, you already have a solid background in music from playing the trumpet. If your school doesn't have a piano program, then contact some music stores in your area and ask if they give piano lessons or if they can recommend a good piano teacher. Since you already have a good ear for music, you should have no problem picking it up. Good luck to you.

That's true that The only thing I regret is having giving up the trumpet. Very stupid decision. In fact, my band teacher told it would be a big mistake but I didn't want to bother. I just wanted to trying other things like sports or other activities, but pretty stuppid. It's been 3 years and I've been going through tough times and it's been hard struggling to find who I was. Now I've found out that I am truly a "creator". Art and music has been like a born talent for me, but I never saw that. Thanks for your response!

it's never too late to learn. learning is an ongoing thing after all. good luck! i used to take piano lessons when i was younger but then stopped when i entered college because i got really tied up with my studies and all. although i'm not very good at it (haha) but i guess i'm glad that i do know how to play the piano and read music notes^_^

no, it is never too late. i started to learn to read notes on the piano when i was three years old. then i stopped playing around eight yrs. old. i really got serious playing the piano when i was 15 yrs old. and now i'm 19 and studying in a college of music majoring on piano, and i may say i'm already good at it as a classical pianist . so, if you really want to learn, you have to be determined to learn it. if you think you can't do it, you're right, you can't. But if you think you can, then definitely you can! you just got to believe in yorself. good luck to you.
