I think it is a great pick up I just hope it's not too little too late. I was disappointed during the off season when NY got very little pitching to help their aging staff. As we have learned in the past few playoff series great pitching beats great hitting. The Yanks have the bats but not the arms to make a run at the post season. Hopefully when they get the guys back off the DL they will be able to make a run. We did get a great outing from Wang yesterday and a solid outing from Rasner today. Hated to see Hughes get hurt as he bounced back for a terrible first start to dominate Texas. To have any shot this year the arms have to get well in a hurry. Any thoughts?

I think that Roger Clemens is going to prove to be a $28 million, 45 year old bust. The Yankees consistently do a bad job of putting together a pitching staff. They always find the oldest free agent pitchers that are available and have them anchor the rotation. The Yankees won't even make the playoffs this season.

Clemens is only pitching for about 6 innings every fifth game, and that is not going to be enough to get the Yankees to top of the AL East. Clemens can only do so much; and also let's not forget that the Yankees bullpen is very shaky. Scott Proctor has been constantly overworked and Mariano Rivera hasn't been the same Rivera. Sure, Clemens can give them a lead into the 6th inning, but that's what all he can do. Plus, it's every FIFTH DAY. The other Yankees starters are very shaky at best, with the exception of Chien-Ming Wang. Phillip Hughes is still young and has not been proven, and I cannot predict how good he will be. The best the Yankees can hope for is to at least for the AL Wild Card, which will still be a tough goal to reach.

Absolutely! No question it was a great pick-up. It's one of those deals that "had" to get done because of the injury riddled pitching staff. They're 5.5 games back and now with a "healthy" rotation of Clemens, Pettitte, Mussina, and Wang I think they're in decent shape. Will the old-timers hold up? There's the question. Still to early to tell if Hughes is the real deal or not, but something tells me he's not going to hurt them when he returns. Maybe a lot of wishful thinking on my part, but I think they'll be fine. Time will tell.

I agree. i hope its not too late. Pitching beats hitting. If the Yankees are in a close game it scares me because they don't have the consisent pitching that other playoff caliber teams. 1. Wang 2. Pettite 3. Clemens 4. Mussina 5. Hughes Looks amazing. Although their age does worry a little. Staying healthy and giving enough innings so the bullpen doesn't breakdown is the most important thing. The future of the rotation looks to be in deccent shape. Rasner, Kartens, Sanchez, Hughes, Clippard and company. The transition which is going on right now isn't exactly smooth. They need to catch fire to catch Boston for the AL East title. I am at least hoping for the AL Wildcard. Missing the playoffs for this roster is unacceptable.

I hope it wasn't a mistake. Clemens is already practically at his prime for being an effective pitcher. I think this Friday he's pitching in a minor league game. I hope he has his stuff.
