Hurrican Katrina - Total Destruction
United States

Being in my house during katrina, and staying for the aftermath, I have seen first hand how people can come together when everyone is nothing more than a stranger. People from around the nation came to help and sent things to people they did not even know. I am interested in other peoples views about how that incident, along with other national emergencies, are helped by our brothers and sisters in this country.....

Because of the second anniversary, I feel the need to speak. I went through the storm, but caught the flack of it you might say, my kids caught the full brunt since they were on the Miss Gulf Coast then. I have been through some hurricanes, and I tell you, community is a big thing after one, but then so is greed and opportunitism as well. Also, though I have stated before that I have nothing against the folks of New Orleans or Louisiana, there were other states that caught this too. If you want, I can take you the southernmost tip of Alabama and show you places that caught Katrina's wrath, namely Bayou la Batre, Grand Bay and Irvington. The whole of Mississippi Gulf Coast caught hell during that storm, and is slowly trying to recover. I can take you there too. I have seen subdivisions where you have houses, and the folks live in the trailers in the front. I saw two in front of one house and steps between the two. My inlaws are now slowly remodelling their own home. I am grateful for the help that came. Personally, I have nothing good to say about FEMA. My family that lived up North came through for us by sending clothes and money for my kids. I will never forget that.
