Let's discuss if you have witnessed any visible effects of global warming in your area

I've seen a lot of weather changes in my area due to global warming over the years. I live in a snow belt area, it is known for it's terrible, deep snowy winters. Since the mid to later 1980's, when people were first discussing the possibility of global warming the winters have changed. Lake Erie used to totally freeze over each year, and people would drive snow mobiles, and sometimes even cars, all the way across. Now a days, it hardly even freezes on the edges much less all the way across (with deep enough ice to drive on!)
Summers have changed around here too. When I was a child, we used to have long and very hot summers, with sunshiny days outnumbering the rainy, clouded ones. Summers have not been as hot as they used to be. This years gardens, field crops, and all plantings had a very tough time growing. Not enough direct sunshine, and too many rainy days. There wasn't enough warmth and sun to dry up the ground for plants to start growing, so fields of corn, pumpkins, oats, and all, just rotted in the ground for the most part!
I've been a farmer my whole life, and on this family farm for 4 generations before me we have not seen such changes before. Believe me, people rely on farmers to supply food to them, but if they don't get the global warming under control, the earth is going to have more problems than just weather. When crops fail because of weather, the food is more scarce. When the food is more scarce, the prices skyrocket.

You know what you say is only too true. People have to wake up to the fact that Global Warming is a reality and is affecting us this very day and age, not in 1000 years from now. Thanks for sharing such insights and I am glad that with such responses from everyone, I am confident that there are people who realise the severity of the issue and hopefully we the normal people of Earth will do something about it since our governments are all so caught up with their own politcal legacy.

I haven't really experienced anything. I don't really understand the whole global warming thing. People are freaking out over the average temperature rising 1 or 2 degress over the next 500 years. It won't even have any effect on our grandchildren. I'm not that worried about it.
