I just found this really great site. It is called "signing time".
They have so much fun stuff for your child to do. They have free downloadable coloring books, MP3's and lots of activities. They have printable calendars that would work well in a day planner or even to make your own day planner from a notebook. The activities look really exciting. I copied a few to gather up the materials that I will be needing so I can make them with my Grandkids when I go down to see them. I just loved this site. It is great for parents, teachers, day care providers and Grandparents.
Here is the link:

They even have a wonderful variety of FREE newsletters. You will find so much stuff on this site.

I'm saving this link - I just took a quick look but some great ideas for things to do with the grandkids when they're over. Next time my grandson spends the night I'm going to take him to the site and let him pick out some he would like to do - he loves being on the computer with Grandma so know he'll get a kick out of doing this, he's 4 and very smart for his age.

My Grandkids are two and four. They live so far away and I miss them so much. When we do drive the 9 hours to visit them, I take things to do with them. The church that they go to teaches sign language to all the kids and I was amazed at the signing activities as well as other activities that this site offers for free.
Do your grandkids live close to YOu???

I have 2 that are close and 3 that are halfway across the country (just moved this past fall) I miss them horribly. The two close are almost 2 and 4 - they were just here today for a few hours and usually are 3 or more times a week. Today we were outside the whole time but when the weather is bad I need more things for them to do inside.

You are very fortunate to live so close to them. I bet you already know that though.

What a cute little site. Almost makes me want to get cable again so my girl can watch the show. She's home from school sick today and has spent the last 20 minutes or so cruising that site with me.
It's so perfect. Just last week my daughter came home from school and was telling me that they've had a lady come in and teach them a few signs and they sign along with the song "the more we get together". This site dovetails perfectly with it. Tomorrow she's going to go back to school and is so excited that she's got a few new signs that she can show the lady when she comes into the classroom.
Thank you so much for passing this site along and giving me a chance to have some fun with my girl.

At first I was confused when I went to the website- It is a sing language website- Which is great to teach your kids but not something that I’m going to do right now- My daughter knows a lot of sing language already. Then I started to look around- It is a cute website- I see a lot of cute ideas and crafts- Looks more geared to younger children- I think my daughter would be easily bored with some of the crafts- She is 10. I do think it’s a great website if you have younger kids- The Lily craft looks great! It would be cute to make for a grandparent for mothers or fathers day- Cutout of the kids hands. Very cute! I’ll pass the website along to my cousins (they all have kids that are younger) Thanks!

I loved the sight. My grandchildren go to a church that teaches sign laungage. They are only two and four and they can already sign. I love the activities on this site. Did you check out the one listed for August? It was my favorite. It was "the kissing hand". Cool site. I am glad that you explored it instead of just leaving it when you were confused. LOL Thanks for your comment

Hi Anne What a wonderful program, I wish i had heard about it sooner my granddaughter had a speech problem and for years had to go to speech therapy, but it would have been less frustrating for her to have been able to sign as well. This is just great and it wouldn't hurt any child to learn basic signing. I found I was caught up in the video and right into doing the signing with the children.. Thanks for bringing it up today

I wish sign language was taught to all children. It would be so much help in making those with problems feel more comfortable. Thanks for your comment. How is your granddaughter doing now?

We have use many of the activities from the website as well. I also subscribe to many of the free newsletters that keep me well supplied in activity ideas and the like. Thanks for sharing this one, villageanne. I have been to the site in a few weeks. I appreciate the reminder.

Sounds like you are cool granmma! My grandkids live a nine hour drive away and I do miss them. We try to go visit them about every three months. It is hard with gas prices the way they are now though. I dont think family is ment to be that far away. LOL

I love this site as it has wonderful resourses to help teach sign language. The best time to teach them is when they are below five years of age. My grandchildren are two and four (well almost four, she wont be four for a few more days) they already know sign laungage. They teach it in church. I love to watch them use sign.

I made a copy of the August Activity on The kissing hand. It is going to be so much fun with my Grandkids. I am really excited about this site. The church that my grandchildren attend teaches sign language to all the kids and this particular activity is just great. I live so far from my grandkids that I dont get to see them very much.

It looks like a great site. My granddaughters will be coming around more, now that the weather has warmed up so that we are all a little more willing to leave our houses. I'm sure that they will enjoy some of the activities when they come over.

Thanks for sharing with us. I'm gonna go and check it out now to see if there is anything on there that my daughter would love to do. :) She's so funny, she's like a little adult at times even though she's only 5 years old.

My grand daughter is 4 she taught herself sign language from these videos. My daughter had bought them to try and teach her brother some basic signs. He was slow starting to talk. My grand daughter has now been sharing these signs with her pre-school class. I'm sending this link to my daughter. I know my grand daughter will love this spot. Thanks for posting it.

What a terrific site! I sent the link to my oldest granddaughters. One of them learned to sign a little bit in the first grade as there was a hearing impaired child in her class. It's a shame that signing isn't taught as a part of the school curriculum at an early age. It would be of great benefit later in life. Thank you for this link. ~Donna

Indeed, this is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing it with us. My 3-year-old daughter knows how to use a computer already and she likes exploring different sites like www.cartoonnetwork.com.ph or www.crayola.com. This site will be an addition to her favorites, I bet. Can't wait to show this one to her. She's in the kitchen right now.. Maybe I'll show her after I am done with posting here in Mylot. =)
