Paying cash for a car, done it, or trying to do it?

Anyone out there trying to save for their next car to avoid the dreaded car payment? Has anyone done this already? My husband and I have decided NO matter what- we are never going to have a car payment again. Anyone think we are nuts? Are we cool? Are you aiming for the same goal? Also, if you have done this, share your story! How long did it take? Did you go to a dealership or private sale (classifieds,).

I certainly do not think you are nuts. You are smart for trying to plan ahead. Earn the interest in saving rather that giving it to the loan company. You are much better off. My wife and I have made car payments, finally paying her's off not long ago and now it is not worth much. However, it still runs.
