How do you balance your job and family obligations. Especially if you are a senior executive?

Not sure what type of perfession you are in. If you can schedule all meeting in the morning or early afternoon, then it's much easy for you to plan for early take-off to be with your family. This is especially true once you set the rule, majority of the pepople will understand and let you leave at your time. In the past, after I have my 2nd kid, I told my boss I'll start to come early and leave early...4:30pm. It wasn't easy at beginning, but I kept an alarm watch that would beep at 4:15pm; therefore, whenever I was in meeting and my co-workers heard the beep, they would even kick me out of the meeting...said in joking way, your 2nd job is on...go... I was lucky enough to have an undstandable boss willing to let me shift my work time and the whole team undstand it as well. On the other hand, I also told my boss at the time that let me know early if you know there will be a late metting, so I can call my husband to pick up th kids that day or any prior arrangement, else sometimes I just have to call in for conference if necessary. Good luck!

ooh.. im not a senior executive but i do have a job and a family.. i have a night job and most of the time, when my family is awake, im sleeping and vice versa..so we really dont see each other that much but whenever i dont have work i dont sleep excessively so i can spend some good time with them.. but of course family comes first so if my family needs me, i wont hesitate to leave the job and be with my family..^_^
