What is so unhealthy with hotdogs that makes it a junk food?

I would say it would be all the preservatives and the fat content in the over processed meat. Then there is the colouring in the hot dog skin and the lack of a balanced five food group mix. Other than that, the hotdog is a healthy meal!

Hotdogs are unheatlhy because of 2 things...first of all, the fat content is horrible. Second, you really don't know what part of the cow or pig you are really eating.

there are many things that are made from cow or pig that made for different foods , I mean bacon is from a pig right? hamburger is made from a cow... So they combine it to make it a hot dog nothing wrong with that, but there is more to a hot dog than just that or at least I think so anyway not that I actually read the label...

Hotdogs sure are tasty but I think the healthiest thing has to be the tomato sauce! I usually wouldn't suggest that tomato sauce is a healthy thing to eat but I guess it is a comparitive thing! Go the hotdogs!

Wow, I never thought of hotdogs as being bad for you or being classified as "junk" food. I'm not really sure what all is in a hotdog, but I try not to think about it. I just love the taste and I eat them all the time as meals. I really could care less if it is junk food, their just so tasty!!

A study by Peters et.al. in 1980 and 1987 found that children eating more than 12 hotdogs (includes all processed meats like bacon) per month have nine times the normal risk of developing childhood leukemia. A study by Sarusua and Savitz found that children who ate hotdogs one or more times per week were also at higher risk of brain cancer. The reason is that hotdogs contain nitrites as preservative which when cooked forms carcinogenic N-nitroso compounds which are associated with cancer of the oral cavity, urinary bladder, esophagus, stomach, and brain. Eat nitrites-free hotdogs instead which are perfectly safe and healthy.

I've watched on a informative show that hot dogs are made of waste pork. It is being recycled and created into hot dogs. That is why, it is considered a junk food.
