The effects of an avatar

I changed my avatar over the weekend. Now I know I am in the habit of noticing certain users just by their avatars, and I would assume that is the samr for most of us. Since I changed my avatar my earnings have dropped! I haven't posted any new discussions and I'm sure that has something to do with it, but I have to wonder if changing my avatar makes it harder for my friends to recognize me. Has anyone dealt with this!

I think yes. It is easier to recognize the user by it's avatar rather than their username. I personally, can easily determine who is my friend based on the avatar he/she is using rather than remembering his/her userid.

My first thought was who it that little bugger poking his tongue out at me then I saw it was you...ha ha ha. I don't think I will ever change mine because it is my sweet Schatzie and she looks like she is talking which is what I do a lot of on myLot!

I changed mine because I've just felt so frazzled lately, and this one reminded me of,well, me. A liitle more personal I guess than my old one. I never thought of it as sticking his tongue out at anyone. LOL Oh well, I like him, so he's staying. What should I name him?

I think that can happen. I visit another board more regularly, and have kept the same ugly avatar for years, because I've noticed that people sometimes have to start building their credibility up from scratch when they change it. That said, I LOVE your new avatar. It makes me smile every time I see it.

You know I change my avatar often, I get bored and so I will change it, usually cats, but a week ago I had the funniest penquins on that made me laugh everytime I looked at it, but I did get a comment from one of my friend's that they didn't recognize me cause I didn't have a picture of a cat, so yes, I can see where changing your avatar is not a good thing.

I've had the same avatar since I joined at the end of January, I just got tired of it, and this one really just "said it all" as to how I've felt lately.

Yes. I must say I didn't recognize you at first with your new avatar. It just takes getting used to. I will probably never change mine because it's unique (I think) and people seem to know me by it.

That was part of it. Although my old avatar was a picture I had taken, it was a landscape just like half the other users here have, and I wanted something different.

While your new avatar is ....well.....interesting, my friend.....kust kidding....LOL I have all of my friends discussions going directly to my email now...it makes it easier for me to keep up with their discussions..... I do look at the avatars...some of them are adorable!!! I would imagine that it would affect your recognition...but at the same time...I look at the discussion topic before I look at the avatar....so for me, even if you are not on my friends list....I look at the discussion topic first.

Well I know for myself when I'm looking in the new discussions or top discussions for example I do look at the avatars first for my friends and then at the user name. I think it's easier to spot the avatar then it is the name in such situations. However the avatar alone won't make me post or not post to a subject, it depends on how interesting the discussion looks. I think your new avatar is cute :) I bet there are times you wish you could do that to people. I know I like my avatar and thought of changing it a time or two but figure most know me by it. If I do change it then I'll have to make one up that has similar things in it.

By changing your avatir doesn't mean that you will low down your money earning ratio but yes it's true that your friend now can't easily recognise you.

I did consider changing my avatar but, to be honest, I like my blue dragon and people recognise him. I do tend to recognise people by their avatar, it just seems easier to find my friends on here if there avatar is noticeable

Oh,now i know. But for me i am not looking for a nice avatar here,i am looking for the discussion that interest you and your discussion really interest me.Thanks for the good discussion. For me,in choosing a topic to respond to avatar is not important and not one of the factor its the relevance of the topic thats what matters to me.

I don't really look for any specific avatar. I look at names when I check the discussions my friends have started. PEACE

i'm brand new at this, so i may not be the one to participate in this discussion, BUT i am more of a visual person, and would remember a pic more than a name, however, if i was one who loved your discussions and you were my friend, i would remember you no matter what your avatar is (hey, not that i don't love all your discussions, ha ha, i haven't gotten that far yet, heehee sorry plz excuse me) anyway cuz that's how friends are supposed to be right? ...BUT i just want to say i love your avatar, how fun! i think a lot of us feel this way lately! it's great, so cute!!

Heh, i changed mine too, but i dont see effects of it...positive or negative. I remember just some avatars, but allways notice the discussions of my friends- just because i am checking them regularly.

I have changed mine and I don't care if people recognize me or not. I just think this dog is so cute and she needed to get out and get some exercise!

I never change my avatar. It will be difficult for my friends for catching me up. You can catch up a user by his avatar only. So if u change it frequently it will be hard to identify.

We perceive the avatar picture first, and then the screenname. While I can see people potentially ignoring the screenname and only looking at the picture, I wouldn't recommend this, since it's the screenname that does the actual identification. We're just a visual species, I guess.

I think if u keep changing people might not recognise u as it appears as a different image... Many just choose one u like and stick with it? =) Just a suggestion ya...
