I have been wanting to try belly dancing for a while now. We have a few places here that have classes for it. I was wondering if any of you have ever had success with this as a weight loss exercise?

I can highly recommend belly dancing as a great form of exercise. Having said that, the instructor on the dancing course I took last year insisted that it is often better that ladies have *curves* to dance properly - lol. It may not help with the weight loss so much as tone up the muscles and exercise, definitely a lot of fun too

Thank you for your opinion on this. I think even if I did not lose a pound I would really like to try it out. It does look like it is a whole lot of fun and I like to dance, just have not been done it in a while.

I'm not sure about belly dancing to lose weight, but I do know that it helped me to tone my body, particularly my stomach. I would suspect that in conjunction with other lifestyle changes, it could help a person lose weight while getting in better shape.

Dances are good exercise and fun. Aerobics usually uses music to get it done. Belly dancing should be very good for woman. Capoeira is a brailian dance that is said to be a perfect exercise but it is complex.

belly dancing is a really good way to loose weight especally on the part of the belly, but if you want really loose weight with the dance, you will have to try latin american dance:salsa;merengue...exc. It is the best way to loose calories and at the same time exercise all the body... 300 calories losed in 30 minutes of good dance!!!

Thank you for your response. I have been doing the belly dancing thing for a few months on and off now and have found that it does work. As far as the salsa dancing I do agree with you 100% that it is a great and fun way to lose those extra pounds.

yes, i used to belly dance, and the good thing about this is that you get to have curves, and i stay fit, but to lose weight for this? probably yes but in my opinion you must have to add up some gym work outs.

So did you try it out in the end? I would think it will help you shed fats and lose weight. After all, belly dancing sounds like an aerobic exercise to me - what will help in weight losing. ;-)

i havent tried belly dancing though, but my cousin is doing it and she did loose her weight, but she told me that when youre doing it and really wanted to loose weight, i guess you also need to discipline yourself from eating too much food...good luck to you then! :)
