If you don't respond to a discussion, do you still rate it?

I like to read the discussions started by my friends almost on a daily basis (I don't always get online to check, sorry) some times I read them and don't really have a reply. I also do that on other discussions I see. I still try to rate the discussions and even some of the replies. I think that's part of what effects our star ratings, and I like to try to help people keep their ratings. What about you, if you don't respond to a discussion, do you still rate it?

I've never rated discussions I didn't respond to except for a few times where cheaters were involved - I reported the discussion and then marked negative, figured it was going to get deleted anyways so no since in responding. Do our ratings count if we don't respond to the discussion?

I don't know if the ratings count even if we don't respond, I wonder if any one out there knows. Thanks for responding.

I am like you. I will read all of my friends discussions. But I don't always have something new to say so I just give them a positive rating. I don't know if it helps their star rating or not. If it does then I am glad that I could atleast help.

If a discussion is interesting enough for me to read it then I shall respond and rate it. If it uninteresting to me I will not open it or rate it.

I never thought of that. I usually quickly read the discussion in notifications, & decide whether or not to respond. If I do respond, I rate it as well. As I don't open discussions that I am not responding to, I don't rate them. But perhaps I should, of friends at least. If we all did that, with our friends, assuming the discussion is worth a +, we would all get better ratings. Good idea.

I always make it a point to rate most of the discussions my friends start on this forum. As extensive replies are not always possible , I try to jot down a few lines in reply.

I will rate a post that is interesting enough to get me to read it even if I don't respond to it. I figure if I decided to read it then the person made it interesting either in the title of the first line and deserves some sort of kudos for that. You got your plus on this especially since I am posting here.

I rate just about every discussion and response I ever see. I have done the same thing as you and have read through a discussion and not have anything to say. But, I do rate it. If the discussion is not interesting, I may not go through all the responses and rate them all, just the first few.

I tend to rate all the discussions I get involved in but I don't always rate other discussions I don't respond to.

Oh I've definitely rated discussions in the past that I haven't responded to. I usually do it if I don't have the time to write a proper response, but I still feel the discussion is good enough to rate positive.

Normally I don't. I only rate it if it is really good but somehow I chose not to answer. Or if it is really that bad that I have to give it a minus.

Mmmm,it's hard to say.I will respond to a discussion to show that I want to rate it.When I surf on the BBS of my university, sometimes I don't respond to a discussion but I will post the especially ramark and the remark means that I still rate it.I will respond the discussion which it deserved but I seldom respond to a discussion for rating it.

I like reading discussions and responses too and I do rate them as I read them, even discussion topics. This is my reward to the poster he provides me with some entertainment. However, if I do follow the discussion, often, I will post a response as I will have something to comment after reading the response. If I do not post a response, I find that I am doing both the poster and myself an injustice, unless there is nothing worth adding on part.

i rate all my discussions with our without responses except if the response doesn't jibe with the posted discussion or its contents are worthless, in which case i just leave it blank. this way i can help people keep their ratings.

yes i rate the discussions/replies but not to improve their rating it is just b'coz after reading if i feel discussion is good/bad enough to be rated. otherwise i always try to give my response, but if i don't have time then i give rating.

Yes, sometimes I go into a discussion and read everything. Then I found that I was speechless and didn't know what to write. I would rate everything in the discussion before leaving though. It will benefit other mylotters and this way, I won't feel that the time spent on reading is wasted.

Yes I still rate a discussion even if I don't respond to it. I rate discussions that are informative, has a nice topic and of good quality. I don't get to respond though because sometimes they have a lot of responses already and other members already said what I have in mind.

Ok, this was something new for me..rating the discussion. I will try to do this in future. I am quite new here and there are a lot of stuff I don't know yet but I promise I'll try to learn them;).
